Luke was not a dentist. His family downplayed his job as such but he was a dental surgeon who treated a lot of wealthy and famous people. He normally only completed two maybe three surgeries during his office hours. Wednesday had finally rolled around. It was his wife's birthday.
He stopped by the mall and picked up the bracelet that he ordered then headed home. It was more than four hours before he normally would’ve gotten home so he knew his wife would be surprised. He had thought about how he would kill her and her lover when he caught them together.Since that Saturday, he had given up on her loving him and came to grips with the fact that she no longer loved him.
That didn’t change the fact that she had to die. When he was going through her bag and her notes. He noticed they were working on a behavioral drug that not only made the consumer docile but it increased their strength and stamina. He could only imagine the drug was for a military contract. The drug worked for an hour, sometimes two but then the subjects would lose their mind. They would try to kill themselves and anyone around.
It had been a little over a month since he obtained that information. He had throught about synthesizing it himself and selling the unfinished product on the black market. The number of people that would die were too high, even for him. He pulled up to his condo and there were no cars parked in the driveway.
For a moment he was excited that his wife wasn’t with her lover. He unlocked the front door, he needed his face to be seen in their door camera. It would provide for a time stamp. If anyone asked though, he would say the garage would’ve ruined the surprise. He slid his shoes off and walked into the house with the box behind his back.
It was perfectly silent with the exception of light snoring. He looked through their rooms and there was nobody. The last room was a guest room. He walked in and there he was, there they were. He slept sloppily like he had not a care in the world in his married girlfriend’s home. He was laying on his back with only his privates covered and mouth wide open. Suzy slept in the fetal position on her side. They looked so comfortable that he could only imagine the number of times he had been in their home.
Luke reached into his pocket and pressed his thumb and index finger into a finger covering. He then took out the dissolvable tablet and dropped it into the man's mouth. He thought he was going to have to be dramatic in order to get it into his mouth but they made it too easy. Luke took a step back.
“So this is how you celebrate your birthday?” He said loudly startling his wife and her boyfriend awake.
“Lucky! Wait! This isn’t.”
“Don’t fuckiong call me Lucky! That’s what you called me when you loved me. You are the only person on this planet to give me such a nickname.”
The young man stood up and fell to his knees. The medicine was taking effect.
“I’m sorry. I’m sooo sorry.”
“I know you are. I bought this 13 million dollar bracelet for you even though I had a feeling you were no longer solely a part of my life.”
“I love you though. He was a mistake.”
“You are going to enjoy what’s going to happen later. I will be free of you just like you’ve always wanted to be free of me.”
Luke turned and calmly walked out the room. Suzy followed behind him. He slid his shoes on and she continued to follow him with just the sheets wrapped around her.
“It’s over Suzy! Don’t follow me! I will contact my attorney so we can start this divorce.”
“NO! We aren’t getting divorced! You will stay mine, just like I am yours.” She grabbed his shirt in an attempt to turn him around.
Luke could feel the urge to slit her throat boiling up. “Don’t f*****g touch me.” he snapped his shirt from between her fingers and proceeded to get in his car. She watched him back out of the driveway. He could see her boyfriend excessively rubbing his neck and coughing in the doorway.
Now all he had to do was wait and watch for the gruesome scene on the news. He made his way to a bar five blocks from his home then called Grayson. There were no reasons for the police to think he had anything to do with their deaths. Both were in the camera alive and well when he left.
He walked into the pub and took a seat in a corner by the window. He had the waitress bring him their best whisky and 2 steak and potato meals. Grayson would soon be joining him. While sitting at the table he thought about the scenario in which his wife survived the attack. It made him laugh. She will either need a casket or therapy. He wanted her to suffer but the tear that escaped his eye said that he wanted to continue loving her.
“Sir, Are you okay?” The waitress asked as she sat his glass on a coaster.
“I caught my wife cheating on me. I’m trying to pretend that I’m not hurt. Doesn’t seem to be working does it?” He must’ve looked really pathetic. The waitress leaned in like she was going to hug him.
“What’s going on here?” Grayson asked before she could get closer.
The waitress was startled and stepped back quickly.
“Excuse us ma’am.” Grayson said while the waitress worked to pull herself together.
“So it was true? But…” Grayson squinted. There was no way his psychotic cousin s***h brother didn’t have a plan. “If he’s this relaxed you relax.” he thought to himself.
Grayson continued to watch Luke act like a heart broken husband. Over a stint of an hour and a half , they ate steak and drank until they couldn’t stand. Grayson still didn’t know why they were just there or what was going to happen next.
Luke’s phone rang for a 3rd time, Grayson reached over and looked at it. It said Lagos Police.
“Hey Luke, answer the phone!”
Luke sat up and took the phone from Grayson then answered it.
“Sir, your wife has been seriously injured after being attacked. Can you please come down to the hospital?”
“I am too drunk to drive! Have her cheating ass call her boyfriend! Stupid b***h!” He yelled almost incoherently into the phone.
“Sir. He is dead.”
Luke burst out laughing while still holding the phone. “That has nothing to do with me.”
“Sir. I am sorry to bother you.”
Grayson listened to the phone call and everything made sense. Luke pressed the disconnect button and the slyest smirk laid in all its glory on Luke's face. Grayson didn’t know how he did it but he was sure Luke had something to do with it all.
“You know what. I am good now. Let me stay with you until I purchase my next home, after the divorce of course.”
