Luke checked the clock then rolled back over. Around nine o’clock was the time his wife went on her dinner break. He laid in bed staring at the ceiling, with an open book on his chest, trying to decide if he should take her a late night meal. Everytime he went to her job to surprise her, she was seated with her co-worker.
He hated that the co-worker was a male but her line of work did not have a lot of females, at least that was her excuse. He wasn’t really bothered by her eating with a male. He was bothered by the fact that she wouldn’t introduce him or invite him to have dinner with her. He was her husband and just being a part of her life was becoming a chore.
Instead of popping up at the laboratory, he decided to call her and ask what she was eating and if he could join her. As soon as she picked up the phone, he could hear a male laughing in the background as she worked to control her giggles. [I must be some weak b***h to her.] He took a deep breath and spoke, “Hey Honey. Are you already eating dinner? I was hoping I could meet you tonight?”
“Ye. I started early.”
“Can I stop by?” He already knew the answer. Suzy held the phone for a moment before answering. The dead silence was all he heard. [Did she mute the phone?]
Finally, the line cleared and the noises from their surroundings came through again.
“Not tonight, lucky. Maybe sometime next week. I will let you know.”
Luke sat up in bed and prepared to go to her job. “Sure. That’s fine. Love you.”
She quickly responded, “You too.” and disconnected their call. Nothing about the call sat right with him. He needed to see her face. He needed to believe this was all in his head. He jumped in the car with only his tank top, boxers, and house shoes on and headed to the lab.
He couldn’t enter the property without her being notified, but there was a location that he could get to without raising alarms. He dodged in and out of traffic trying to catch her at the peak of the hour. He felt like that day she was being bold. She had spent so little time with him over an extended period, she had forgotten who he was. He was ready to help her remember.
He pulled into a wooded area that faced the pond where he had seen her eating dinner many times over. He removed his house shoes and climbed one of the stronger trees with his binoculars around his neck. It had sturdy limbs and had held him comfortably a couple of times.
After he made it to the best location, he laid across the limb and placed the binoculars to his eyes. From the phone conversation, he could tell they were outside instead of behind the glass of the lunchroom. He spotted his wife and her beautiful smile and he almost didn’t want to know. [I’ve come this far.] He was tired of degrading himself to watch her laugh and live with this dark-haired co-worker.
Their meals were gourmet. They weren’t eating off of the cafeteria styrofoam like the other days. It looked romantic as they sat under a faint yellow glow of a mosquito-repellent lantern. Then it happened. He reached over and removed something with his thumb from the corner of her lips. He traced his hand to her earlobe. He watched with his lips quivering as she leaned into his touch.
For a brief moment, he wished he had his sniper rifle. He took the binoculars from his eyes, then made his way down from the tree. Before he made it back to his car, he was in tears. A part of him wanted to deny what he was seeing, the other part of him wanted to kill her and anyone that supported their relationship.
He picked up his cell phone and called Grayson.
“Hey. I am really going to need your support. Be ready for anything.”
“Luke.” Grayson couldn’t think of how to respond to his statement. His heavy breathing, which was synonymous with deep painful crying, made Grayson lose his composure momentarily.
Luke held the phone without speaking another word. He didn’t say anything else. Grayson thought about all his favorite spots that he talked about drinking. He thought about the clean up protocol.
After a minute or two, Luke spoke again. “Later Grayson.”
Luke made a few more phone calls. He wasn’t sure he would need the level of backup he was requesting but he refused to take any chances. If things went the way he hoped they wouldn’t, he needed to be able to pick up the pieces and keep moving.

After Luke hung up, he held the phone a little longer. His heart raced. He didn’t want to be a part of this lifestyle anymore. He thought he was out. “With Luke as my brother, I guess I will never be truly free.” He whispered to himself. Luke’s words were haggard yet clear. Grayson stood up and checked his closet safe for gear needed to make sure he could have his cousin’s back. Everything from a muscle suit that mimicked Luke’s body type to body bags and cleaning solution. He was sure his part in all of this would only require the body suit. Luke would never call on him to get his hands dirty,

Luke returned home. He took a short shower and discarded his clothes and house shoes. The feeling of being utterly disrespected cut deep, but he wanted to believe this cut was superficial and would heal quickly and without attention. After drying off, he laid in his bed naked. [Back where I started.]
The next morning should have been the one day he woke up to his wife. When she came home, she always had a reason to sleep in a different room. There was always a reason why they couldn’t be intimate. The moment Luke opened his eyes, he searched the bed for his wife. He was not surprised not to find her. He got out of bed still completely naked and made his way to the living area. His wife laid still in her lab coat on the sofa. He leaned down and kissed her lips. She slowly opened her eyes but she didn’t smile.
She looked into his eyes, watched his lips. He pushed his arm under the back of her arms and laid his naked body on top of her.
“I’m tired.” She breathed.
“I miss you. Can I have just a few minutes of your time?” She hesitated to answer, then took a deep breath.
“Just a few minutes, then I would like to sleep.” Luke wasn’t thrilled about her response but he wanted it so badly he was going to sacrifice some of his integrity to feel her body close to his. He moaned, then rubbed his hand over the top of her zipper.
Her lack of motion and sound made him want to snap her neck. [You don’t have proof.] He unzipped her pants and stuck his hand in. She wasn’t the least bit interested if he let her body do the talking. For a brief moment, he decided to walk away. He didn’t want to have s*x if she wasn’t going to participate.
“You don’t seem very interested, for someone who hasn’t slept with her husband for two months,” Luke snarled. His blood was boiling. He crawled off of her. He marched back to their shared room and closed the door. Suzy continued to lie on the couch, ignoring his anger. Luke wanted to go see Reeza again. He wanted to choke her until he saw life leaving her eyes and then f**k her until his d**k put life back into her.
