“It’s fine,” Matthew cut off. His voice lowered. “What I just wanted to say is that every time something happens, you move closer. You investigate. You dig deeper. You keep going until you find the answer.”
“Because someone has to…” she said in a low voice.
“And what happens when the answer finds you first?”

Matthew's jaw tightened. “What happens when the person watching you decides they don't want you investigating anymore?”
