Chapter 6
Unknown POV
Three mysteriously cloaked figures convene at a dilapidated lean-to in the middle of the woods outside of the Oakheart cemetery.
"She's already starting to have the dreams."
"So what? She has no idea what they mean. To her they are nothing but nightmares."
"Ah, but that's untrue, isn't it? She feels the familiarity of it. She'll soon become curious as to why, especially since they will soon become a reoccurrence."
"She's not as dim as Knox hoped, or was led to believe."
"Good. That will work in our favor. Knox is unsuspecting and the girl is bright."
"Yes, young Natalie has grown into a quick-witted young woman. Not at all the child she once was."
"She'll soon discover her true identity and unlock her full potential."
"As she should! It should never have been hidden from her in the first place and to have thrown her into the nest of snakes at that!"
"Hush now, someone may hear you. Then we will be discovered and all these years will have been for nothing! You know that sending her there was for her own protection. Knox would have killed us all if we had kept her. The whole town would have been demolished."
"I agree. Maybe she would have been better off with us. We could have trained her all her life, Everleigh too."
"They would have died. Knox would have made sure of it. You know this, or else you would have told Everleigh the secret long ago. That's why the whole town doesn't remember! We made sure of it, in order to protect the girls, remember?"
"Yes, yes. I know. It still bothers me who she was placed with."
"Well, Dawn is no longer with us. I can't sense her. None of us could then either, remember? That's why we assumed the worst. That is why she had to go where they would never expect. We blocked Angela's memories too. That way it would be safe."
"A lot of good that did, that woman is still as nasty as she was when we first blocked them."
"Yes, but not as dangerous. However, soon she will begin to recall just as Natalie will. Then she will teach Cassandra. Natalie will have to be removed from their care before that happens."
"Yes, she will. However, I am unsure of how to go about it."
"She will be eighteen soon. I would reveal all to her then. She will legally be an adult and Angela will have no say."
"This is true, but how will she know to trust us? How will she know where to go?"
"We can speed up the remembering process, or leave her clues."
"It is a good thing her and Everleigh are best friends. I can have the girls come over to my house this week. I'm sure John and Alise will be willing to help. They know what's at stake."
"How they've managed to keep it to themselves all these years I will never know."
"Everleigh almost discovered the secret years ago. Alise slipped up slightly, but was able to recover quickly. She fooled young Everleigh into believing it had never happened."
"What happened?"
"Some things come to us as if second nature after years of practicing. Alise forgot for a moment and had made the kitchen become clean with a snap of her fingers and young Everleigh had walked in. She couldn't have been more than five."
"What did Alise tell her?"
"Alise just told her it was her imagination and that she had been cleaning all morning while they had been outside playing."
"Back to the problem at hand, what are we to do about Knox?"
"We will have to hope we have enough time to train the girls before Angela recovers her memory and remembers her mother."
"And if we don't?"
"Let us hope to Hectate that they will be ready in time. I would hate to consider the alternative."
"Let us go back to our homes before it is noticed we are gone."
The figures start to disappear into the night. One by one they disappear, almost as if they were never there to begin with. All that remains is three silhouettes of shimmery smoke.
