Chapter four - Milkshake girl

2421 Words
Nate's POV: I might be a good student, but I still prefer the summer vacation. Some rest is not that bad. Moreover, I can chill with my friends and do whatever I want. Something that I have to think about is what I will do after high school. There is enough time, but I can't keep postponing it. Maybe this year will be different. Well, I hope so. If I wasn't in the football team, things might be different. I can't leave them now and I don't have a reason to do it. I shouldn't be complaining. This blew up my popularity, but also made more girls walk after me, which is not helping me. I mean that if I want to find my special girl, I need to get rid of the fake ones. For me, this means girls who only walk after me, because they like the way I look. There is nothing bad in it, but I prefer a girl who likes what's inside. Who knows, maybe this year I will have luck. There are always new students so I might use this chance to introduce myself in better lightning. The sad truth is that very soon she will understand who I am. People in my school can't keep their mouths shut. I woke up and saw that it was only 8 am. Usually, I don't wake up this early in summer, but I feel fresh and even if I try, I won't fall asleep again. That's why I got out of bed and went into the bathroom. When I was done, I went for breakfast. The boys are probably sleeping so I won't wake them up. I can go for a walk or something. I won't lie that I liked the milkshakes, which this girl made us yesterday. They were delicious. Maybe I can go for an early one. Well, if it's opened and she is there. I don't know why, but she seemed normal and like many other girls, she didn't check me out, or at least I didn't notice it. Anyways, I will try my luck. If my friends are with me, they immediately will say that I am trying something. When I am alone, I can do whatever I want.  I washed my dishes from the breakfast and walked out. It was only 8:30 am. Let's hope that the shop opens early. Otherwise, I have to go somewhere else. Yesterday, I heard that this girl would open the shop by herself, which means that she will be alone or at least for some time. I don't know how, but she caught my attention. I don't think that she is the girl for who I am looking, but I have to say that she looks normal and friendly. I won't mind having a girl as a friend. Up to now, I only have boys, because the girls in our school won't be friendly with me. I know that they will want something, which I won't give them. If I will do something, I want to do it with the right person.  Soon I arrived near the milkshake shop and saw the girl from yesterday. She was struggling to open the door or that's what it looked like. The keys fall down and in that moment, I decided to offer her my help. I don't know will she accept it, but it's worth a try.  - Do you need help? She lifted her head and looked at me. I used this chance to give her a small check-out. She doesn't look bad at all. Her eyes were like dark chocolate. My mom’s favorite. For their last anniversary, dad bought her the biggest dark chocolate bar, which he found. I wonder if this girl loves it too. Probably yes. I haven't met a girl who doesn't like chocolate.  - Thanks, but no need to. See, I opened it. - she said proudly - In that case, can I come in?  - As long as you order something. - she chuckled - I will have the honor to be your first customer for the day.  - Ok, then. What will be your order? - I want to try every milkshake.  - What? - she asked surprised, which made me laugh - I'm kidding. I want from the vanilla and chocolate mix.  - Ok, I will make you one.  - Make one for yourself as well.  - Why? - Because I want to drink mine with you.  - Really? I will make myself one as well.  I sat at one table and waited for her. I looked through my phone and saw messages in the group chat. The boys were asking where I am and if I want us to go out. I will tell them that I am already out. They don't need to know where I am. Sometimes, I need to be alone. Not like I am avoiding my friends, but privacy is a good thing. She made our milkshakes and sat in front of me. I looked at her and she gave me a smile. There is something wrong with her. I mean that why a girl like her will work in a milkshake shop. I am sure that she is better than that.  - Can I ask you something? - Sure, you can ask me everything.  - Why are you working here? I am sure that you can do a better job. Not like this is not, but... I mean that... - It's fine. Around three years ago, I started coming here as a customer. I used this place as a study one. It was nice and quiet. I was drinking so many milkshakes that the owner started giving me discounts or even free ones. Barry was very nice to me same as his wife. Both of them were treating me very well. That's why I decide to help them with what I can. I worked here last summer, but only for a month and that's why I don't count it. Officially, I started this summer and I think to continue even when I start school. Well, I won't come in the morning and probably some days I won't be able to come, but I will try everything this to not be that often. Mostly, I do it to return the favor and to help Barry to grow his business. I don't know how I will do it, but I still have some hope. Now, what about you? How did you find this place? - My friends and I used to go to one diner, but lately, it became too loud and we decide to stop going there. I don't need to shout so my friends can hear me. We were searching for a quiet place when I saw Barry closing the shop. I asked him how many people come here and when he told me, I said that the next day, I would come with my friends.  - To understand that this is your new place and that I have to see you every day.  - Yes, why? Do you have a problem with me? - No, I am just surprised. Not many people come here and to not mention the ones who actually want to stay here for a drink.  - Well, Milkshake girl, you have to get used to it.  - What did you call me? - Milkshake girl. You make milkshakes and you are a girl. This means that you are a Milkshake girl. - I said and she laughed - If you say so. In that case, you are a Milkshake boy. You are drinking milkshakes and you are a boy.  - It doesn't make much sense to me, but I'll agree with you.  We were sitting and talking. It turned out that she is not bad at all. I am glad that she doesn't know who I am or if she knows, she is hiding it very well. I feel like I can tell her many things, even if some of them are personal. This girl doesn't look like the type who will spill out everything.  - I'm sorry, but can I ask you one question? It was bugging me for a while.  - Yeah, sure.  - How do you look like this and you are still single? I mean that you come only with your friends. Wait, I get it. You don't bring your girlfriend here so she won't get jealous of me. Don't worry, I won't steal you from her. She can sleep calmly. - she said and chuckled I have to say that she is funny. I will admit it. She caught my attention once again and how I see this won't be the last time.  - I am single. I won't lie that I have a long line of girls walking after me, but I don't want any of them.  - Why? I am sure that not all of them are mean girls.  - Yes, but all of them like me because of the way I look. I'm not saying that this is something bad, but I wish that there is a girl who is interested in what I looked at inside.  - Good luck then. When you meet a person, the first thing that you look at is the way this person looks.  - I know, but I was hoping that this won't happen to me. It's not my fault that I look like that.  - Actually, it is.  - What do you mean? - You can look ugly if you want. It's visible that you take care of yourself. Otherwise, you weren't going to look like that.  - Ok, you have a point here, but in my defense, I have to give the girls what they want.  - If you want people to accept you the way you want, try to be yourself. Do what you do, because of you, not someone else. Of all the girls on the planet, there might be only one who will like it, but it's better than nothing. Moreover, this might be the girl for who you are looking.  - Maybe I have to try this. Thank you Milkshake girl.  - No problem Milkshake boy. - she said and I laughed - Speaking of relationships, where is your boy? Let me guess. He is scared of me.  - No, actually, I didn't want one. Boyfriend was the last thing that I wanted.  - But do you want now? - What? - You said that it was the last thing that you wanted. Do you want to have a boyfriend now? - I don't know. It's good to have someone by your side, but I don't think that I can find the right person.  - Why are you so sure? - Because boys in school always make fun of me. I guess that I don't look the way they want me to.  - I don't see anything wrong with you.  - Thanks, but I don't feel this way.  - You should be more positive.  - It's very hard when the people around you treat you badly.  I was about to say something when my friends came here followed by a boy and a girl. My Milkshake girl stood up and walked to her place. My friends sat in front of me and gave me a look coming with a smirk. I want to wipe it so bad, but I won't do anything. They don't need to know what is going on.  - Emma, James, what are you doing here? - Milkshake girl asked - Mom forgot to give us money.  - And what do I have to do about this? - Dad is not picking up his phone so you will give us one.  - No way. Moreover, I don't have much money in me.  - We don't want much. Only 50 each.  - I have only 20 dollars in me.  - Yes, but you have savings. Where are they? - Oh, no. I won't let you spend all my money. I have been saving them for years. If you want money, find a job. I am not a bank.  - Don't worry. We'll find them by ourselves. Thank you little one.  - Stop calling me like that. I have a name.  I guess that these two are her brother and sister. Did she mean them when she said that people around her are treating her badly? Probably not. They didn't look like people who will judge her style or the way she looks. Again, there is nothing wrong with her.  - Won't you tell us what is going on between you and her? - Henry asked - You mean the Milkshake girl.  - Who? - Tyler asked - Her. I gave her a nickname.  - As she will accept it.  - Just watch. Hey, Milkshake girl, I need you.  - What can I do for you Milkshake boy? - I want you to bring milkshakes for my friends. You can make one for yourself too. I will pay for it.  - Thank you, but as work here, I have unlimited free milkshakes.  - Really? - Yes. This was one of my conditions when I said that I will work here.  - Good decision.  The girl went to bring our milkshakes. She even made herself one. We let her join us since she is always alone here. Some company won't be bad for her. I have to say that my friends asked her a lot of questions, but I saw that this is not bothering her. I think that I know what they are doing, but I won't say anything. I don't want to give the girl wrong intentions.  The rest of the day, I spent with the boys. Well, most of the time we were at the milkshake shop. Tyler went for food and surprisingly he bought something for her. Well, she was surprised too. The girl wanted to pay for the food, but we didn't let her. Tyler said that I would pay for one milkshake of her choice and he the food. At least she was happy about it. I won't lie that I wonder who are the people who have treated her bad. I don't know much about her, but she looks like a nice person. I don't think that she has done something bad to someone. I won't ask, because this is not of my business. If she wants, she will tell me.
