Thirty-One

1550 Words

The tension in the air was palpable as Valencia sat in the courtroom, her fingers drumming impatiently against the polished surface of the table. The room was filled with the murmur of voices, and her gaze constantly flicked toward the door. It was nearly time for the hearing to begin. The final hearing that would determine Melissa’s fate. The fate of the woman who had almost stolen her son and nearly cost Ty his life. The woman who had tried to throw Alaric from a cliff, and who had caused pain that no one in their right mind should endure. Valencia's stomach churned as she thought about it. She had fought for justice. She had been told that this would end today. That Melissa would face consequences. But now, it felt like the universe was conspiring to keep her from finding peace.
