The Seism Academy was named posthumously after the Alpha founder, Harry Seism. His family was a pack of werewolves, forced to escape from the Netherlands due to a hunt. Although the pack made it to the States, due to infighting, they split into two different sects — the Halo Pack and Hegemony Pack.
The fight would continue for generations, until the Halo Pack got hunted down by the new hunting organization, causing them to merge with the Hegemony for protection. Harry Seism was there, and he made it possible, creating the academy as a haven for protection against those who wished them harm.
A blue Honda Civic entered the premises and came to a stop near the building, opening the door and out was Tyler. He had blonde hair, and blue eyes that lit up even under the dimly lit area.
The main building had large windows, and wide corridors — on the other was a group of smaller buildings clustered together in two clusters. One cluster was more or less used as a dormitory, having two rows of four beds each. As Tyler walked past it, the memory he had tried to bury came back.
Although he had given it no thought, the sheer mention of Rose was enough to get him in action but the feeling was nothing he wanted. The smell reminded him of the time he had spent there training but none of those memories could keep up with the ones he had with Rose, the love of his life. It felt as if she was right there with him, holding his hand, and the feelings were all too overwhelming. They left him weak in the knees, his head spinning, and his heart racing so fast he feared it might burst out of his chest at any moment.
The academy did not house students anymore, however, rather than grown adults working in secrecy to protect their wolf kind. He was one of them, one of the protectors. He could feel everyone else there, their scent and their beating heart but he had been working there for how long he could remember that he knew the one rule they followed — secrecy.
Whenever a member of the pack would arrive, the other would hide to make the place look empty. Any hunter pretending would be sighted and eliminated on sight, which had only happened once.
He reached the main building and entered to meet Ethan standing right there.
“Tyler,” said Ethan tapping his staff on the floor twice. “Welcome.”
Like a swarm of bees, the pack surfaced one after the other. Some appeared from the ceiling, some were behind him, and some were even in visible places that a human would not be able to deduce.
They all walked to him, greeting him with their glowing eyes and flared nostrils. He was used to it, everyone was. He had been out of town for a long time, and he would not even be back if not for the message he had gotten.
It was an important matter, and he could tell that something bothered Ethan but there was no real way of telling since the man had had the same expression since they had known him.
Tyler asked. “I got your call.”
The details of the information were obscure, not too revealing with the amounts of monitoring by hunters going around.
“Yes,” Ethan reached the end of the corridor, tapping the door with his staff. “The information was too fragile to reveal over the phone, and even more details had come to light since I called you.”
In the room was a large table, and behind it was a chair with a wolf inscribed on it. On the right wall stood a statue of Harry Seism himself, and on the left was a coat rack.
By the window stood someone strange, yet familiar. He had on a long coat, with his poorly cut dark hair, and dusty shoes. In their world, scent was everything, it was enough to tell a person’s character and right then, all Tyler could get was alcohol mixed with cigarettes.
Ethan picked up the bottle of bourbon on the table, alongside two glasses. “Tyler, you remember Jacob.”
The informant, a bridge between the supernatural and the natural world. He had been helping the Seism agency for as long as he could remember, and even though he had gotten older, he had the same dead face he always had a few years ago.
“I remember him,” Tyler frowned. “What is this about?”
“This is about Rose, which I’m sure you already knew but the whole story is a little more complex than that,” Ethan sighed and handed Jacob a glass. “Rose is in danger.”
His biggest fear had come to light, and his heart sunk almost immediately as Ethan uttered the words out of his mouth. “What do you mean?”
“I intercepted some information a few days ago,” said Jacob, tapping on the glass. “You are aware of Grey, the rogue werewolf.”
“I was tracking him but his trail always went cold,” said Tyler. “What about him?”
Jacob reached into his coat and pulled a couple of pictures out, handing them over to Tyler who collected them with hesitancy. The contents of the pictures were gruesome — pictures of dead people, severed limbs and blood. “He’s back, and here in town.”
“And we think,” said Ethan. “We think he’s here for Rose.”
Tyler could’ve sworn he had a minor cardiac arrest, and his eyes whilst stable, were nothing more than a façade to cover up his real feeling — fear. He had not felt fear like that since the face-off with the werewolf hunters two years ago.
Jacob corrected. “It is probable. Given his trajectory ever since he surfaced, he seemed to have one direction in mind - L.A.”
“Which is you’re here, we want you to—”
Tyler voiced. “I’ll do it.”
He did not need more information on the matter, as long as it involved Rose, he would do anything to protect her. He had travelled all over the world to maintain peace, and when it required force, he did.
He was the protector, the guardian angel of the pack and he was there again, not just protecting his kind but his love. He had no more thoughts to give it, he needed nothing else. His love was greater than anything on the planet, and he would do anything and everything to make sure Rose is safe.
