Tyler hadn’t seen Rose for the past few years, and he was unsure as to what to expect. He could not imagine what she would look or sound like, his memory of her was of the young girl he had met at the orphanage.
He had been driving for about an hour, tapping on the wheel rhythmically. He left everything back at the Seism, except for the thought of protecting Rose till death.
He could not tell if his nervousness was due to the thought of meeting Rose after the years, or the fact that Rose was in danger but either way, there was something there. The love he had never gone away, and although he masked everything with missions, all he longed for was to see her face, even for the last time.
Her had thought about It all in his head but there was no logical reason he could come up with that would explain Grey’s reasoning to think about harming Rose but the question became much more absurd the more he thought about it.
A killer, that was who Grey was, and his reputation had earned the name. Even before he defected, he had a knack for killing people but with the brain of a man, and the strength of a beast, he was nearly unstoppable. The hunters had tried capturing him too, killing him even but every plan they made resorted to the death of their people.
Grey was a force to be reckoned with, and at the moment, even Tyler was unsure how to get rid of him. The last thing he wanted was to reason with the beast, he wanted to destroy for going after Rose. She was the best person he ever knew, and with all that had happened, he wouldn’t think twice to take a bullet for her.
He arrived at the set, and with just a view of the place, he could tell that it was a big project. It was packed with different kinds of people, with tasks of their own. He parked his car and stepped out to feel the atmosphere of the forest in another city. He had not stopped for sleep ever since he got the information about the looming danger, only for gas and the occasional bathroom time. He looked around and came across a woman carrying a bunch of clothes as if she had just stolen them.
He stopped her. “Hey, uh, I’m Tyler. I’m looking for Rose.”
“She’s busy.”
The woman left abruptly, leaving Tyler hoping that he hadn’t cost her her job. He never really got the appeal of pretending to be someone else on camera, he found it to be a waste of time, and even every time that Rose would tell her why she wanted to become an actress, it all sounded odd to him. Dreams at a younger age were just dreams, nothing more than that.
Children wanted to be inanimate things or superheroes and all other things but then they age, with barely any memory of the dream they once had. He had always wanted to be a pilot, fly around with Rose in the sky. They had always talked about chasing the end of the rainbow, but she had joined the stars, and all he had was fighting hunters.
He walked around the set, looking for where the action was taking place but everyone he asked did not pay attention to him. He thought about tracking her scent, but people changed. The scent she had years ago could be different from the one she had now, and even if he could, he knew not what she smelled like anymore. It had been a very long time, and she would have changed.
He took a turn and walked through the woods into the empty clearing. He could smell blood, away from the busy people and to the trailers parked at a distance. He followed the thick scent of blood, and it led him to a trailer with the name “Rose” on it.
A lot of thoughts ran through his mind, but they all screamed the same thing. What if Grey had gotten to her, he thought. He reached for the handle, and opened it, expecting the worst but the room was clear. There was paper scattered all over the table and bottles of soda on the ground. He picked one up and tossed it into the trash can before taking in the air of the trailer. It was her, it was slightly different but it was her.
He was not sure how long he had been in there, but it felt like he had spent a lifetime there. Unlike humans, werewolves felt everything differently. Different smells could trigger different memories, but for his kind, it was more vivid. He was lost in reverie and did not notice someone enter the trailer with him.
“Tyler?”
That voice, he thought. It was not in his mind, it was not a figment of his imagination but there, with him. He turned, and there was her face — brown eyes, and thick lips. Her hair was longer, and lighter than what he remembered.
There was tension between them, anyone could tell. They stared into each other’s eyes like they were trying to read something off of them, and their hands came together.
It had been years since he had heard that voice, that sweet voice. Although it had changed slightly, after all, they left each other at such a young age but it was still the same soothing voice that calmed him anytime he got angry or out of control. And it was those eyes, the eyes that peered into his mind, knowing his thoughts almost better than himself.
Tyler stared. “Rose, are you okay?”
“I am fine, yeah,” she smiled. “You’re here.”
“I am. You look beautiful.”
“Thanks,” she bit her lip. “Why are you here?”
“Grey, he’s coming for you.”
“He already did.”
Tyler flared. “What?”
“He was here yesterday, I got away but I’m afraid he’ll come back for me.”
“So am I,” he grabbed her hands but she broke away. “Well, then. We have to leave immediately.”
“It’s good to see you, Tyler.”
“You too, Rose.”
