Chapter 1 : The Unexpected First Day In The Magic Academy, And The First Year Magic Competition

We all arrived at the welcoming ceremony.

The school principal Tamaru Iwane came up to stage.

"WELCOME TO THE PROUD KYOUNI MAGIC ACADEMY! I'M HERE TO EXPLAIN THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW."

He explained the the so called great rules.

"You all have your kyouni magic academy identity card."

"Remember, always follow the great rules and have common sense. Though the rules will not be necessary in under circumstances. Such as terrorist attacks. If you see any suspicious activity kindly report it. Any Visual magics can be used. We need every information."

"That's all! Again! I welcome you all to our Kyouni Magic Academy."

Everyone gave him around of applause.

After the welcome ceremony I went to my assigned classroom to meet my classmates and mentor.

A young lady came inside the classroom.

"Everyone sit down." She said.

"I'm Sada Haga, I'm your main teacher. I need to explain more information that the principal didn't mention."

"You're all first years so you're currently at 5th Series. If you win the magic academy exams the class gets more class points. And classroom points what makes you advance to a new series."

"The higher your series the more allowance you get. You also have to pass the minimum score of 50/100 for every practical exam. Or you'll be expelled."

"That's it."

Everyone felt at ease.

The first subject studies have finished and it's time for break time.

My classmate Kisa Chisato keeps giving me deadly glares.

"Uhm, Chisato-san? Do you need something?"

"Nothing." She replied and walked out.

That was strange. Guess I should explore the academy.

I went to the school yard.

Woah, the school yard really looks nice.

It's quite crowded but not that noisy. I should probably check my dorm and get to my room.

I arrived my assigned dorm and went to check my new room.

This academy is really amazing. Now I get why everyone dreams of this academy.

I opened my door with the key that was given to me by the academy.

"Where's my key?!" I heard next to my room.

"I must've drop my key." And sighed.

"Uhm Hello? What's the matter?" I asked.

"I actually forgot my keys And lost it somewhere and I can't get in."

"Well we're neighbors. You can stay to mine for awhile once you get your room key."

"I have no choice then. What's your name?"

"Tazawa Toshi."

"Oh so you're also a first year."

"I guess so."

"How about you? What's your name?"

"Koiso Kyoko. I'm from the 5th series. Nice to meet you Tazawa."

"Like wise." I replied.

We both went inside my room.



Wow.

"Woah! Tazawa-kun! There's a balcony! I can jump off there to my window."

"Isn't that dangerous?"

"It's fine. I'm all good."

After she climbed the railing I went behind her.

"Hm? Tazawa?"

"I'm here to catch you if you messed up."

She jumped off the railing to her balcony.

"Thank you again Tazawa. Let's meet again."

"Yeah."

I packed all of my items and left my room and went to the library.

I read books about the great hero Masaru Oyama. I was very interested in he's story... Though that's one of the reasons I can't appreciate him.

I'm suprised I got in this academy... My magic is the lowest it can get...

I'm lowest of the low...

but I don't have any time to feel upset.

and so I left the library and went to get some fresh air.

"Someone! help me!" After hearing the loud voice I rushed down where it was at.

A demon was summoned unconditionally.

This is bad! A HIGH LEVEL DEMON?!

I need to call security! NO THERE'S NO TIME!

Tazawa summoned a sword from his magic storage and started to charge at the demon.

The demon's attention was now in Tazawa.

"Quick! call the personel members!"

I spare enough time for the girl to run away.

The demon's raw strength is incredible.

I slashed it multiple times I managed to gave him wounds but since I'm using raw strength it has no affect in Demons that's mostly why it can still regenerate.

"This is bad."

A magic skill came out of nowhere and landed a high blow to the demon.

"What?!"

"You managed to survive till I arrive, what's your name?"

"Tazawa Toshi."

"Tazawa Toshi, you have potential to become a great mage."

"But you're missing something."

"What is it?"

"I'll explain it later. For now rest at ease. I need to take care of this one."

"What are you saying?! That's a high level demon. You can't just kill it easily!"

"I'm the student council president and also a 1st Series Class-A Jiro Seiho."

"I have something I would like to discuss with you after this Tazawa."The student council president, Jiro Seiho was fast enough to arrived before Tazawa faced some major injuries.

"Ok! I'm pumped up now! Tazawa sit tight and just watch. I'll show you what the student council can really do."

"Tazawa, you do have potential but you don't know how to use magic swords. That's why I'll show you how. So feast your eyes."

As I stay still from a far away I can really feel he's overwhelming strength. So this is the power of the student council president? The atmosphere got intense between these two. Can I be strong as them?

He ran equal as the speed of sound and attempted to slice the demon.

Despite the demon's size he can still keep up with Jiro's fast attacks. Even someone like him can only keep up their just equal.

Jiro used he's sword to sliced the air for no apparent reason.

"What are you doing human? Are you scared? You're hitting nothing for no reason." The demon said while laughing.

But Jiro just stayed silent while still attempting to run around the demon.

"I can't deny you're speed is not bad for a human."

While it smashed the ground to immobile Jiro. It punched him leading to him getting blown away.

"That was a good warm up... You're next..."

It started walking towards me.

"I thought Kyouni is where the amazing mages started."

"You really should confirm you're victory."

"Oh? You could've pretended that your already long gone. You're only making things worse for you."

"I don't really want fight you. After all... you're weak."

"How dare you incolent human... I'll certain your death won't be fast."

The demon's arm was sliced by thin air for a split second. "W-what?! How did you."

"Your just weak. After all you attacked our proud academy."

"N-No one told me that there will be a advance mage here."

It passed out and hit hard to the ground, but it wasn't dead.

"Welp that's done. Anyways, Tazawa are you doing alright?"

"How did you do that? You didn't even hit him."

"I actually did." He answered.

"I didn't even see your blade hit it."

"Ohhh. Let me provide you a temporary vision."

I gasped after seeing he's blade.

"A multiple element blade?!"

"Well you could say it's like that."

There's just no chance. He's a monster himself.

"That's what your missing. I saw that you know how to use a sword. Why are you in the magic academy?" He asked.

"I actually want to combine swordsmanship with magic." I replied.

"Oh! Not a bad idea! By the way, i'm not Jiro Seihiro."

"Eh? WHAT?!"

"Jiro is clearing the other attacker. I'm Esumi Oyama. My mother is Koki Oyama I'm actually the vice-president and a second year. We might go against each other at the 1st year vs 2nd year student magic competition."

"The student magic competition?"

"It's a class magic competion where 1st yeas and 2nd years compete and the 2nd years will be competing with 3rd years as well. Us 2nd years are fighting 1st and 3rd years."

"I see."

"Anyways, nice to meet you Tazawa. Sorry about later I lied. My mom Koki said to not use my actual name to strangers. But we're buddies now! So it's alright."

"OI! ESUMI! WHERE WERE YOU?" A loud scream from the distance.

"Oh! Jiro!"

"What?"

"This is Tazawa Toshi."

"Oh, Mr Toshi? Can you come with us for investigation purposes?"

"A-Ah ok."

"For now let's go to the infimary and let's examine you to make sure you don't have any broken bones."

They helped me get to the infimary. To make sure I have no major injuries.

"Sensei, this guy needs body examination he got attacked by the demon check if he has some injuries."

"Please lay down."

I layed down and stood still.

"I need some information to identify him. Please put out your palm."

My whole body started emitting light.

"Oh, so your Tazawa Toshi. Ok now I understand."

"I'll be examining you're body."

The examination took a solid 30 minutes.

"Hmm, you don't have any major injuries. I'm suprised you didn't get alot of injuries. You're unlike the other girl here. She dashed here all by herself."

So she's that girl.

"I must go escort Mr. Toshi to get investigate."

We went out of the infimary and followed Jiro.

The girl woke up after us leaving.

"Ms? Who was that?"

"Oh, that was the guy that got attacked by the demon the same as you."

She got out of bed and ran to Tazawa.

"Thank you for saving me!" While waving.

"Yeah." I said and waved back.

"Hey Tazawa-kun who was that?"

"Oh she was the girl that was attacked so I helped her escape."

"I see."

"Wait, if I may ask is Jiro a 2nd year?"

"I'm actually a 3rd year."

"Well how do you know each other?"

"My family and Esumi's are really good friends."

"Seems like I'll be facing Tazawa and you!"

"Just because we're friends Esumi I'm not holding back."

"Okay then let's settle our score this year."

"Yeah!"

"I'm looking forward to compete with you Tazawa."

"Same here. By the way, when's the magic competition?"

"Well first year competition starts 5 days fron now. 10 first-years will compete against the 10 chosen second-years and the 3rd-years will also pick 10 chosen students to fight the remaining students that won the amongst the 1st-year and 2nd-years or both." Jiro replied.

"That's complicated."

"Right!"

"Well, here we are. Please come in for the investigation."

"All of these will be recorded for further use."

Wow, this investigation is really secure. I guess I shouldn't be suprised. After all this is the this is the greatest to be known kingdom.

"So Tazawa Toshi, what race was the one that attempted to kill you?"

"A demon."

"Are there anyone other than you?"

"The girl I saved that she's currently in the infimary."

"Esumi, can you escort her here?"

"Okay."

Esumi left the room leaving me and Jiro alone.

"How did you managed to fend off the attacker?"

"I couldn't do any damage to the demon."

"What kind of attacks did you use to fend it off?"

"I used a simple sword that I put in my magic storage for any unexpected combats."

"What magic did you use?"

"I didn't use any magic."

"So it seems the demon is immune to non-magic attacks."

"Yes I think that is the case since nothing really happens when I attacked it."

"Well according to your exams your magic level is average."

I went silent and nod.

"Yo I'm back I brang her here."

"H-hello I'm Ayame Rin. Thank you again Toshi-san."

"Oh, nice to meet you Rin. You can call me Tazawa."

"Please sit down Ms. Rin."

"How were you attacked by it?"

"It punched me at my stomach and broke some parts of my ribs."

"How were you able to survive?"

"Tazawa dashed towards me and helped me get out of there safely."

"Riku, what class are you assigned?"

"I'm assigned at 5th series class-a I was actually late cause I couldn't find my classroom."

"Oh Tazawa! You both have the same class! What a coincidence!"

"Yeah Esumi's right."

"Let's go to class together so you won't get lost."

"S-sure."

"That's all for today Tazawa and Riku. You may go now."

We both left. And started talking.

"What's your assigned dorm Ayame?"

"U-uhm Blue Field room 203"

"Oh! Guess we're neighbors! This is really a big coincidence."

"The dorm is vice-versa. So I guess it's normal."

"It's getting late so we should go back to our dorms."

"Yeah, we should."

And so we went back to our assigned dorms.

I drop off my bed.

"That was a long day. I'm tired."

I slept till sunrise.

It's morning, 4 days before the competition. I went to the bathroom for a shower and wore my uniform and went off. I locked my door and I greeted Koiso Kyoko and waved at her.

"Oh! Hey Tazawa!"

Afterwards Ayame got out from her room and I greeted her.

"Hi Ayame right on time."

"Let's go to our class."

"Is she your classmate?" Kyoko asked.

"Ah, yeah she is."

"I'm Ayame Rin, nice to meet you."

"By the way Kyoko, are you ready for the student magic competition?"

"Yeah, let's do our best. I heard the prize is going to be either money or for exp."

"It's a fixed experience level."

"If you ever won, What will you choose if you ever win Tazawa?"

"I'd pick-"

I was interupted by a group of men.

"No need to answer that newbie. You won't stand a chance."

"Don't be so sure you weirdo.

"Sato Ken, remember that newbie."

Who ever this dude is quite cocky.

"Don't worry about her Kyoko, let he's skills do the talking."

He pointed at me.

"Don't joke around, I don't know how you got here but I only sense small amounts of magic inside you."

This dude is pissing me off.

"Break a leg out there newbie."

He walked out with his group.

"What a jerk."

I can't fight them if my magic power is lower than average. If only I have the same power as Esumi. Man, I guess i'll ask him to train me some other time.

"Don't think about it Tazawa."

"Thanks Ayame."

"Hmmmm You seem very close." Kyoko said with a deadly glare.

"L-Let's go Ayame."

What was that about?

Ayame and I walked to our classroom.

And we were greeted with a applaud. Or so that's what I thought but everyone was glaring at me deadly.

"Wait is that the guy who took the credit by pretending to fend off the demon?"

"Everyone shut up and sit to you seats."

Everyone stopped talking but keeps giving me glares.

"The student magic competition will be starting 4 days from now."

"All of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years will be fighting to be chosen amongst the 10 people that will fight the other 10 from the 2nd year and 3rd year chosens as well."

"So for first years there will be a tournament for the trial and who ever is the top 10 amongst the 300 first year students who passed the student magic competition participate to the actual competition."

"I wish you all the best to pass"

"THE MAGIC COMPETITION IS SOON STARTING!" The announcer said. "LIKE LAST YEAR THE FIRST YEAR MAGIC COMPETITION TRAIL IS NOW COMMENCING!" Everyone applaud after the announcement.

"Are you ready Tazawa?" Ayame asked.

"Yeah, I'm ready."

"This year's first round is a squad magic royale! You will be competing against 25 teams that has 4 members each. Your all 100 meters far away from each other. You'll be given scrolls that is only one time use to get a advantage against the enemy teams. Your goal is to be amongst the last 3 teams standing to proceed to the next match. All you should know that don't use any lethal magic. That is all. Good luck everyone."

"Ayame, would you like to team up?"

"Sure!"

"You should look for someone that could join us or we're gonna have to get the people that are left that didn't get a team."

"O-Oh ok."

I should go ask Kyoko to join us.

"You have no choice but to join mine." I heard while Kyoko is being pulled.

I walked towards Kyoko and greet her.

"Yo, Kyoko."

She saw me and she hid behind me. Why is she hiding? She looks uncomfortable.

"Oi, can you get off the way?" He asked in a threatening way.

"Why would I do that?"

"It seems you don't know who your talking to. I am-"

"Stop right there." Someone behind him started walking towards him.

"HUH?! Who are you talking to-." A knife was directly at his neck.

"In this academy your social status isn't eligible here. Everyone's equal here."

"What ever." The guy walked out glaring at me that looked like he wants to kill me.

"S-sorry Tazawa."

"What was that all about Kyoko?"

"I don't know..."

She probably doesn't want to talk about it.

"Thank you by the way. May I Know your name?"

"I'm Kuroki Nemuru."

"Thank you Nemuru-san."

"You don't need to be formal. Please call me Kuroki."

"Ok then."

Everyone was making a fuss after hearing he's name.

"Good luck Kuroki."

"You too Tazawa."

He waved while leaving. I guess he's a first year huh, but why was everyone making a fuss about him?

"Kyoko? Would you like to join my team?"

"Sure! Thank you for standing up for me. You looked so cool."

"It's nothing let's go."

After me and Kyoko went to meet Ayame, it seems she found a potential member for our team.

"Hey Ayame."

"Oh! Hey Tazawa. This is my brother Kimoto Matsuo he would like to join us."

"Nice to meet you I'm Kimoto Matsuo."

"Your siblings? But your last names are different."

"Oh we have different mothers."

"Oh ok now I understand."

"Glad to have you on board Matsuo."

"Please call me Kimoto let's not be formal."

"Ok then."

"Now let's wait for the announcer to give the signal of it commencing."

"Ok then let's wait."

After a whole straight hour...

"IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE HAS THEIR CHOSEN TEAMS! EVERYONE GET READY YOU WILL ALL GET TELEPORTED TO YOUR DOMAINS IN 3 SECONDS GOOD LUCK AGAIN!"

After one blink of an eye we were all transported to a different location.

Wow, we really got teleported.

"Ok so Kimoto is only a intimidate ice magic user. Kyoko is a intimidate summoner. And Ayame is a intimidate elemental user. Ok so Everyone's using good magic we can win."

"How about you Tazawa? What magic do you use? I'm curious." Kyoko said.

"I don't use magic."

"What?!"

"I'm just gonna use scrolls."

"This is gonna be hard then." Kimoto said.

I can't use magic swords... But I can still stand a chance.

"I sense a squad is coming our way."

"Where are they Kyoko?"

"3 people are in the 3 bushes and 1 at the tree."

"I'll make a distraction you all ready your offensive attacks to fend off the enemy."

"Yeah!"

I used my magic scrolls to make a distraction giving Kyoko, Ayame And Kimoto to cast their spells and leading the attacker's defeat.

"Good job you three. We have a chance to win this round."

"Hey Tazawa?"

"What is it Kimoto?"

"Mind if I talk to you in private?"

"Sure."

We both went away from Kyoko and Ayame for a bit.

"What do you want to talk about Kimoto?"

"Why can't you use magic? I see your pretty good at using magic scrolls, but why not actual magic?"

"I have magic but it can't deal any damage to anything it's very weak. It's the lowest it can get."

"I see. That's all I wanna know."

We both went back.

"Hey we're back."

"Oh welcome back."

"So what's the plan Tazawa?"

"I think we should prevent attracting and avoid unnecessary fights."

"True, we might get sorrounded if we get to a fight that could wore us out some might ambush us so I agree with Tazawa."

"Same here."

"I also agree."

"I have another plan, I have these scrolls that can hide our mana so those below the that magic sense can't detect us. We will be completely invisible."

"That's genius!"

"Thanks. But Kimoto gave me that Idea so you should instead thank him."

"Me?"

"Ayame you can use dark element so we can increase our safety so no one can sense us. We need to make sure we're safe."

"Let's do this!"

"Yeah!

Our goal is to make sure that I win and become victorious What ever I need to do to win doesn't matter. I'll use them if its necessary.

"Say, how long does the game last?"

"Oh It can take over a month. But if the game isn't finish after a month then it will be cancelled."

"I see."

"We need Kyoko to summon dark element familliar to scout the area. To make sure to alert us if any enemies tried to attack us."

"Ok leader."

She summoned two dark element wolves that she has vision of.

"Ayame and Kimoto I need you to team up and make us shelter, and use shadow magic to hide our shelter. Since we need a place to stay."

"Roger!"

"Kyoko can you do one more thing?"

"What is it?"

"Can you summon another monster to hunt us food and water?"

"Sure."

"Thank you everyone."

It's possible we might last for a whole month. But I'll make sure to finish this battle royale for a few more days.

"I'll go explore the whole are to fend off some enemies."

"Stay safe their Tazawa." Ayame said.

"I will."

I walked around the forest and observed the area.

It's possible to put some actual man made traps since magic isn't involve.

I need to work out and train for abit so I can fend off possible enemies.

Tazawa started smiling.

Hanging out with them isn't so bad.

The last chapter Tazawa was on the look out for any possible enemies.

Tazawa got a call to he's transmitter that seems to be coming from Kyoko.

"Kyoko, why did you call?"

"Tazawa, you need to return right now."

"What? Why? What happend?"

"My white wolf familliar is dead."

"What!? What happend!?

"A group of people are coming towards our settlement."

"I-It's them."

"Who?"

"Sato Ken."

The guy who threatened me!?

"How many are they?"

"T-twelve."

"So their teaming with two more teams?"

"It seems like that."

"Ok listen Kyoko. You three need to get out of there."

"But what about the settlement?"

"Your safety is important right now. We can make a new settlement later."

"I need you three to get away from the area as fast as possible."

I draw out my map and looked for a place to meet up.

"But what about you?"

"Kimoto has a map. Tell him to evacuate everyone to the nearby cave. And tell Ayame to try casting magic that nullifies any sound."

"G-got it. But what about you?"

"I'll fend them off if possible."

"What!? How are you going to do that!? It's hard for you to use magic!"

"Trust me Kyoko."

"Your being reckless your being stupid. But ok I'll trust you on this one."

"Thank you, now go I got to prepare."

"Wait."

"What is it?"

"Becareful."

"I will."

I hang up and prepared. Kyoko, Ayame and Kimoto all ran off to the nearby cave and hid themselves.

one against twelve huh. My magic isn't the strongest, but it's surely not weak.

After a few minutes of running I made it to our settlement and scouted how far are the enemies.

Then for a split second a fire spell attacked me and it landed a hit on my back.

"Well, well if it isn't the newbie. You didn't expect us to arrived earlier than expected?"

"My team is planning to get #1 I'm with 2 more teams there's 3 more teams left other than us. Once we defeat them We'll get to the next round. My team already defeated the 19 other teams... Your next."

Tazawa got surrounded by 12 people preparing their attacks to finish.

"We'll take your comrades after this. But we would like to teach you a lesson."

I was hit by multiple wind arrows.

"What's the matter newbie? Why aren't you using any magic?"

He threw a water spell. My whole body was hit by the water.

"I see. It seems that you can't use any magic. That's lame. You're not even worth to fight. I guess I'll finish you now."

I tried to run but I was stopped by bind magic.

"Bye bye Newbie."

We need to release it in any time now...

The advance fire magic, Blue flame is about to hit me and burn my whole body.

Just a few more seconds...

3...2...1... NOW

I used dispel force to dispell all of their spells.

"WHAT!?"

"It's my turn. I'll show you some of my power. Fire, Water, Earth, Light And Magic the 5 great elements show us your greatness and give me great power! Magic Sword!"

"A-a magic sword!? That's impossible! EVERYONE THROW ALL OF YOUR MAGIC SPELLS AT HIM!"

They all cast their magic at me but I was able to deflect it leading some of them got knocked out.

"It's over."

I cast my magic and slashed him but the blade was not a full real one it's a simple blade that helps magic flow more. Fortunately he was knocked out.

"Is it over?" The floor swayed beneath me. That last thing I saw before I was completely consumed by darkness..

An hour later.

I was woken up by a voice. I opened my eyes bit by bit and got conscious. I saw Ayame and Kyoko smiling with tears they hugged me like there was no tommorow. My memory is fuzzy I only remember I fell of and that's it.

"Hey girls, where are we?"

"We're at the Magic Competition Medical Bay" Ayame replied.

"What happend to me?"

"You were fighting twelve people all at once and surprisingly you defeated every single one of them. We were worried since the transmission isn't letting us contact you. We went to check you out and we saw you lying on the ground unconcious sorrounded by twelve people." Kimoto said while walking in.

"We're curious on what happend. You were faced with some injuries but your ok. How were you able to defeat them?" Kyoko asked.

"My memory was really fuzzy I can't remember what happend that time. All I remember was I felt unconscious.'

"This is a big mystery then." Kimoto said.

"I guess so. Well what happend to the match?"

"Unfortunately..." They all sighed. "WE DID! WE GOT FIRST PLACE!"

"Geez you scared me."

Mean while...

He smiled after finding out Tazawa passed the match.

"Good job Tazawa for passing. Let's meet in the second year match. Hey Jiro, do you have a clip of the match?"

"Yeah I did. But something's off."

"What was it?"

"The fought between Tazawa-kun and Sato Ken wasn't recorded. We don't have any recordings of it happening."

"I guess it remains a mystery then."

"The mana that flows in him is weak and almost unsensable but it's not something I'm familliar with."

"Same here then."

"But whatever the case. This is gonna be interesting to fight him I can't wait."

How was I able to win? Apperantly the two other teams left were defeated by my comrades. But I'm stil wondering how was I able to defeat twelve people all at once. I was able to knock out twelve advance magic users. I remembered that I couldn't fight them because I was binded by magic. Everything isn't clear for me. But I know I defeated them. And then I fell unconcious. I might have a chance to win for the next round I need to Identify my unknown power and properly use it.

And so He trained before the next match starts.

He trained instead of resting. Perhaps he feels doubt that he might lose. The paranoia he feels that he might lose is making him even more catious to make sure that no one can beat him ever again.

One week later...

"And now the next match is here the last four students who got first place! Koiso Kyoko, Ayame Rin, Kimoto Matsuo, and lastly their leader Tazawa Toshi! and the other four first year runner-ups are all here! Everyone give them a round of applause!"

Some of the crowd were giving were applauding but some are just disgusted for any unknown reason. I don't really know. Who are they even mad at. And wait where's the other four teams?

"Ehem, let's introduce the runner up."

"Wait. Where's the other four people that got third place-"

"They didn't wanna participate. Got a problem?" Kimoto was interrupted.

"Well as he said they back off. This was unexpected so this will probably yet the 33th custom match. Now time to introduce the runners-up. First-up Koda Shino! She's a advance magic user!

Everyone applaud like there was no tommorow.

"And we also have- oh there's a new update so Shino Koda and Kuroki Nemuru will only be the people participating."

"What?! Kuroki Nemuru?!" Everyone in the croud was left in shock. "So, he's Queen Nemuru's Son?!"

It all make sense now. Why their shock hearing he's name.

"Hello, Tazawa we meet again. I didn't expect you to reach the next round. After all... I didn't sense any msgic coming from you."

"I didn't know your a prince. Prince Nemuru."

"Please call me Kuroki."

"Where's your other team? Your fighting us just the two of you? It seens like your underestimating us."
