CHAPTER 12 ____________ALYSSA'S POV____________ It was 9 pm already. Samantha slept soundly on the bed with her tiny little body curled up while I stood by the window, gazing out. Looking back at her, I signed. I still couldn't help but worry. A mother's pride is her child. It's always been and always would. Most especially if it's all she's got. Samantha doesn't seem to amaze me with every twists and turns she made in her sleep. Either ways she would always look so cute like an angel. What if I hadn't gotten to her in time, would she have harmed herself more? Would she repeat such again? What if I wasn't able to help next time if it happens? No. I can't let that happen. I can't lose her, no way. Even if it meant I would have to walk through fire and hell, I would without any hesitations. The vibration of my phone cut into my thoughts. On the screen was Amelia's name. I answered. "Alyssa!" She beemed softly and I was silent at first. "Are you there?" She called out again. "Yes Amelia." She signed in relief. "I was so scared when I got your text. Is she alright?" I nodded as if she was here to see my reaction. "Yes." "So what's your next move?" She asked. I inhaled sharply. "I have thought it through Amelia and I think it's time to take a break away from all....these. Am coming." She was sure to gasp in surprise at my response and I couldn't help but imagine her smiling face in my head. "Really? Then I suggest you come over to my place first. Spend some time together before heading to your cousin's." She suggested and I agreed before ending the call. Soon, wetin the blink of an eye, it was morning already. I could hardly get any sleep. And yet, I set to start packing my things. Samantha walked into the living room lazily, holding her brown little stuffy teddy at arm while rubbing her eyes. "Mommy!" She called out, still in her morning voice. I turned back to find her staring at me. Brighting my face with a smile, I approached her and scout to her level then planted a kiss to her forehead. "Good morning baby." "What's wrong mommy. Why are you packing. Are we going to move out again?" An hint of disappointment was obvious in her voice. I signed. "Listen baby. I-" She moved back from my grip and staired in a way I couldn't pin my eyes on. I tried reaching to her but she moved again. "Sam-" "I don't want to leave mommy." She sprout. And her indulgence made me cross my hands. "Is that so? And why not? You don't even have any friends here." At least now I know she doesn't. They only pretended to be her friend in order to get free snacks from me. Little skanks. Just like their mothers. I reached out to her again and this time she didn't move and I took the opportunity to embrace her. "Oh my poor child. Am so sorry." I kissed all over her face. " I promise it would all be alright. And we would just be living for some while. Just like a vacation. We would be visiting some relatives, okay?" She took a slow time but finally nodded before walking off. I really do feel awful at times. I know, not having a father would be though for her judging by the kind of society we live in were everyone choose to rub insults on your wounds. At least, I use to have a father, just that he was a bastered and there is no doubt the man who actually rapped me years back also would be. I don't have plans on crossing paths with him. But if by chance I do someday, I swear am going to kill him. _FIVE DAYS LATER____________________ Can't denie the fact that it was quite a journey but few hours of driving, we finally arrived in New York City at the sunny afternoon. It took five days of consideration and instalments before we could leave our home. And now, we were standing right in front of the house address Amelia sent. It was just a normal duplex house of self contain. I gave a knock at the door and waited patiently for response. Samantha squeezed my hand and I looked down at her with a smile. I know she was never cool with us moving every now and then. "Don't worry baby. It's just for a while and we would be back home, I promise." The door opened accompanied by a squicking scream. "Oh My goodness it is you. Finally." Amelia's excited voice gave off as she pulled me into a tight hug. "I was beginning to go crazy without you around." She joked before her face moved to Samantha. Her smile widen and so did sam's. "Aunt Amy!" "Oh my little Samantha. I have missed you more." She picked her up into a hug. "Amelia! Stop drying them in the sun and atleast let them rest from the long journey.!" An old voice called out from the inside and I couldn't help but overjoy when I heard. I walked in to find Amelia's grandma in the kitchen while frying something. "Naina?" I called. She looked at me and laughed. "You hardly grown unrecognizable." I approached and she pulled me into a hug. "How have you been my child?" She asked finally pulling away and held my hand. "Oh Naina, better now that I get to see you all." Amelia hated her parents for some reason although there were rich. She had always lived with her grandmother whose life was like an ordinary citizen. Nothing fancy or luxurious to live with. And Naina had always been there for me along side Amelia. When things became though for me years back, they gladly accept me without thinking twice. I looked around. "The house was just as I had remembered." "And wait until you see your room. Naina never even let the house maid change anything only to clean up for your arrival." Amelia spoke walking towards us with Samantha still in her hands. No surprises there, they were both best of friends i must say. Only three rooms were in this house and years back, Naina had made the third room mine. "That's truely lovely. I appreciate." "Amelia would help you settle in your room. Freshen up and come out to eat. I prepared your favorite." Naina smiled. "Not fair Naina. You refused to make my favorite while I did asked." Amelia pout pretending to be mad. "You silly. If I keep making your favourite then you would refuse to learn how to actually prepare it." Naina tessed making me laugh. "We'll quickly go freshen up and come join you soon. No need to help us Amelia. I know my ways around very much. We will be right back." I grabbed Samantha from Amelia and headed to the room with our luggages.
