The Alpha’s Territory

Liora didn’t let go of his hand immediately. Not because she trusted him. Not because she understood what was happening. But because the moment she tried to pull away, that strange sensation inside her chest tightened again—like something inside her reacted to distance. It unsettled her more than anything else so far. Darius didn’t comment on it. He simply turned and began walking, still holding her hand with a grip that wasn’t tight… but firm enough to make it clear she was meant to follow. Behind them, the hall was still in chaos. Voices overlapped in disbelief. Kael’s stood out the most. “Father—wait!” But Darius didn’t stop. Not once. And Liora found herself being led away from everything she had ever known. Each step away from the hall felt heavier than the last. Not physically. Emotionally. Because even though she had just been rejected… A part of her still felt like she was leaving something unfinished behind. Kael didn’t follow them. But she could feel his stare burning into her back until the doors finally closed. Then silence swallowed everything. ⸻ The air changed immediately outside the hall. Not colder. Not warmer. Heavier. Like the world itself reacted differently around Darius. Liora noticed it in small ways first. The guards standing at a distance didn’t look at her. They didn’t question. They simply lowered their heads slightly as Darius passed. No confusion. No curiosity. Just obedience. That alone made her stomach tighten. “Where are you taking me?” she asked again, voice quieter now. Darius didn’t slow down. “My territory.” “You keep saying that,” she said, frustration creeping in again despite everything. “That doesn’t explain anything.” He finally glanced at her. Just briefly. “You will understand once you are there.” “That’s not comforting,” she muttered. “It is not meant to be.” That answer made her frown. He didn’t speak like Kael. Kael’s words had always carried authority mixed with expectation. Darius spoke like the outcome had already been decided long before anyone else got involved. Like resistance was irrelevant. Liora didn’t like that. But she didn’t stop walking. ⸻ They moved beyond the Red Moon border faster than she expected. No gates. No announcements. Just land shifting subtly in ownership. The atmosphere changed again the moment they crossed an invisible line. The air felt quieter. More controlled. Even nature seemed… structured. Trees were spaced differently. Paths were clearer. Like this territory had been designed instead of formed. Liora slowed slightly. “This doesn’t feel like a normal pack,” she said. Darius didn’t deny it. “That’s because it isn’t.” She looked at him sharply. “What does that mean?” But he didn’t answer. Instead, he stopped walking. So suddenly she nearly walked into him. He turned slightly toward her. “This is where you will stay,” he said. Liora blinked. “Stay?” “Yes.” “For how long?” A pause. Long enough for her chest to tighten slightly again. “As long as necessary,” he said. That answer again. Always the same. Never fully explained. She pulled her hand back slightly this time. To her surprise, he let her. But the moment the contact broke— That strange sensation inside her chest flickered again. Smaller this time. But noticeable. Liora froze slightly. “What is that?” she whispered before she could stop herself. Darius’s eyes sharpened. “You feel it too,” he said. That wasn’t a question. Liora frowned. “Feel what?” But he didn’t answer. Instead, he turned again and continued walking. And after a moment of hesitation… She followed. Because stopping felt worse. ⸻ The estate came into view gradually. And when it did, Liora slowed completely. It wasn’t just large. It was imposing. Built into dark stone and elevated land, it didn’t resemble the Red Moon pack structures at all. This wasn’t a place designed for celebration or community. It was designed for control. Every wall looked intentional. Every pathway precise. Even the silence here felt trained. Liora swallowed slightly. “This is your home?” she asked. Darius stopped at the entrance. “Yes.” She hesitated before stepping forward. The moment she crossed inside, the air shifted again. And something inside her chest responded sharply. Not pain. Not fear. Awareness. Her breath caught slightly. Darius noticed immediately. His gaze moved to her. “Again,” he said quietly. Liora frowned. “Again what?” “That reaction.” She hesitated. “I don’t know what it is.” A pause. Then— “It is responding to me,” he said. That made her stiffen. “What?” But he didn’t elaborate. Instead, he turned slightly. “Rules,” he said. Liora exhaled sharply. “Of course there are rules.” He ignored the sarcasm. “Rule one,” he began. “You do not leave this estate alone.” “I’m not a prisoner,” she said immediately. “No,” he replied. “You are untrained in this territory.” “That sounds like the same thing.” “It is not.” His voice was calm. Unshaken. Liora narrowed her eyes slightly. “You keep acting like I’m fragile,” she said. Darius looked at her for a moment. Then said something that made her pause. “I do not think you are fragile.” That surprised her. Before she could respond, he continued. “Rule two. You do not enter restricted areas.” “How am I supposed to know what those are?” “You won’t need to.” “That’s not an answer.” “It is the only one you will get.” She exhaled slowly. Annoyed. Confused. Uneasy. He stepped slightly closer now—not enough to intimidate, but enough that she had to focus. “Rule three,” he said. Liora waited. This time, his voice lowered slightly. “No one in this house will question your presence.” She blinked. “Why?” Darius paused. Just for a second. Then— “Because you are not here by accident.” That silence after his words felt heavier than anything before. Liora’s chest tightened again. “What does that mean?” she asked quietly. But instead of answering… Darius simply turned. “Your room is at the end of the corridor.” And walked away. ⸻ Liora stood still for a moment longer than she meant to. Then slowly followed. The room was already prepared. Simple. Clean. Intentional. Not empty—but not warm either. Like someone had expected her arrival long before she did. That thought made her uneasy. She stepped inside and the door closed behind her softly. Silence returned. But this time… It wasn’t just around her. It was inside her. That strange pulse returned again. Stronger now that she was alone. Liora pressed a hand lightly to her chest. “What are you…” she whispered. A knock interrupted her thoughts. She turned quickly. The door opened slightly. Darius stood there again. Still calm. Still unreadable. “I forgot to tell you something,” he said. Liora frowned. “What?” His gaze held hers for a moment longer than necessary. “You are not weak,” he said quietly. Then he paused. “You are sealed.” And he left.
