Council Enforcement Protocol

962 Words
The Council did not debate for long. It rarely did. Once classification crossed into “risk,” discussion became procedure. And procedure became movement. ⸻ COUNCIL DIRECTIVE: ACTIVE DEPLOYMENT “ASSEMBLE ENFORCEMENT UNIT.” No emotion in the command. No hesitation. Just execution. ⸻ Selene stood in the observation chamber as the system finalized its decision. She didn’t speak this time. Because she already knew what had been set in motion. ⸻ “PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: SUBJECT LIORA DANE.” A pause. Then— “SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: ASSESS DARIUS VIREL RESISTANCE.” The words settled heavier than before. Not because they were new. But because they were no longer theoretical. ⸻ Selene exhaled slowly. This was the part reports didn’t soften. This was the point where observation ended. And enforcement began. ⸻ “UNIT DESIGNATION: SENTINEL CLASS.” A new layer of data activated in the chamber. Not names. Not faces. But structures of power designed for compliance. ⸻ “DEPLOYMENT AUTHORIZED.” ⸻ And just like that— it was no longer a discussion. It was an arrival in progress. ⸻ 🌑 Darius’s Territory The shift was subtle at first. Darius noticed it before anyone else did. Not through sound. Not through sight. Through pressure. The land was responding. Not to him. To something approaching. ⸻ He stood near the outer corridor of the estate. Still. Listening without needing noise. ⸻ Behind him, one of his guards stepped forward. “Alpha,” the man said carefully, “there’s movement beyond the border.” Darius didn’t turn. “I know,” he said. ⸻ A pause. Then the guard asked the question no one liked asking. “Council?” Darius finally looked toward the horizon. “Yes.” ⸻ No surprise. No shock. Only confirmation. ⸻ Because once Selene reported it— this outcome was inevitable. ⸻ 🌒 Liora’s Room She woke before she opened her eyes. That was the first change. The second was the pressure in her chest. It wasn’t pain. Not anymore. It was awareness. Like something inside her was listening to the world outside her room. ⸻ Liora sat up slowly. “…Why does it feel like that again?” she whispered. The air didn’t answer. But her body did. A faint pulse. Not Kael. Not Darius. Something else. ⸻ She pressed a hand to her chest. And for the first time— she didn’t feel divided. She felt targeted. ⸻ A knock came at her door. Not soft. Not familiar. Structured. ⸻ Before she could respond, the door opened. Darius stepped inside. His expression was controlled. But sharper than usual. ⸻ “You need to stay inside this estate,” he said immediately. Liora frowned. “I already am inside.” “That is not what I mean.” ⸻ His gaze held hers for a moment. Then— “The Council has deployed enforcement units.” Silence hit instantly. ⸻ Liora blinked. “Deployed… for what?” Darius didn’t soften it. “For you.” ⸻ That landed differently than anything before. Not emotional. Not confusing. Final. ⸻ Liora stood slowly. “For me?” she repeated. Darius nodded once. “They are classifying you as an unstable system risk.” ⸻ Her breath slowed. “…I didn’t do anything.” Darius replied immediately. “I know.” ⸻ That was the first thing that grounded her. Not accusation. Not doubt. Just certainty. ⸻ But it didn’t remove the weight. It made it heavier. ⸻ “What do they want?” she asked quietly. Darius hesitated for the first time. Just briefly. Then— “To bring you under Council control for evaluation.” ⸻ Liora stared at him. “…Like I’m something to be taken.” Darius didn’t deny it. ⸻ A silence stretched between them. Different from before. Not confusion. Not instability. This was something approaching reality. ⸻ Liora whispered, almost to herself: “I thought the worst part was being rejected.” ⸻ Darius’s voice lowered slightly. “It wasn’t.” ⸻ 🌑 Outside the Border The first enforcement unit crossed the boundary at dawn. They didn’t announce themselves. They didn’t need to. The air changed before they arrived. ⸻ Kael felt it first. Not as authority. As intrusion. He stopped walking mid-path, head turning slightly toward the horizon. “…They’ve moved,” he muttered. ⸻ A nearby warrior frowned. “Who?” Kael’s jaw tightened. “Council.” ⸻ That name alone made the atmosphere shift. Because Council presence meant one thing: Nothing personal remained personal anymore. ⸻ Kael exhaled slowly. And for the first time since the rejection— his expression wasn’t emotional. It was calculating. ⸻ “…So she’s no longer just mine,” he said quietly. A pause. Then colder: “She belongs to their attention now.” ⸻ And that realization changed everything he thought he was chasing. ⸻ 🌑 Darius’s Territory – Return Darius stood at the estate’s outer line now. The border felt thinner than usual. Like something was pressing against it from the other side. Testing it. ⸻ Liora stood behind him. Not fully understanding what she was seeing. But feeling it. Deep in her chest. That same pressure again. Stronger now. ⸻ “What happens when they get here?” she asked quietly. Darius didn’t look away from the horizon. “Then we find out how far they are willing to go,” he said. ⸻ A pause. Then Liora whispered: “…And if they take me?” That question hung longer than the others. ⸻ Darius finally turned slightly toward her. Not fully. But enough. And his answer was simple. ⸻ “They won’t.” ⸻ Not hope. Not reassurance. A decision already made. ⸻ And far beyond the border— something moved closer.
