Chapter 16 He walked fast, his steps furious. A thin sheen of sweat beaded along the back of his neck, just below his hairline, and when an occasional breeze stirred the hot night around him, it sent chills down his spine. His legs burned from the pace he set, his muscles on fire. His thoughts whirled around his mind in a white haze. For a few blocks he tried to chase them down, see where they led, but he couldn’t get a grip on any single one for very long and soon gave up. Last time had been different.
