Chapter 6 Monday came too soon, just as Stacy knew it would. The fact that he couldn’t sleep Sunday night didn’t help much either, tossing and turning until Lamar grumbled for him to lay still or get the f**k out of bed, he didn’t care which. So Stacy lay awake, staring at the ceiling and listening to his friend snort and start and roll away. A little after four a.m., the room began to brighten by slow degrees as the sun rose. Somewhere in the apartment complex water ran through pipes. Stacy watched the red numbers on his clock flicker from zero to nine and then back again. His alarm finally went off at six, and he stared at the clock for a full minute to see if it would automatically shut itself off again when the number changed. It didn’t.
