Chapter 10 Walking across the yard after brushing Shadow and putting his tack away, Barry felt a sense of determination. During their trail ride Shadow had done everything Barry had asked of him. At one point, he’d urged the horse into a gallop. It had been exhilarating, but Barry had gotten scared at the speed they were going, so had slowed them down to a canter. Cowboy hat still on his head, Barry skirted the unfamiliar car parked in front of the house. He climbed the steps, opened the front door, and stopped dead in his tracks. Three large shipping boxes were stacked in the hallway, taped up and ready to go. Barry’s first instinct was to follow Rex into the kitchen and hide.
