Chapter8~Charlee

I ran away from my mate, the one person who was made for me all because of the whispers and the fear of having the same experience as my mom did. He could feel my sadness and fear when I looked at him, I could see it in his eyes. I ran to my room and bawled my eyes out into my pillow. I hear my door open slowly, the smell that comes in tells me it’s Carissa. “Charlee? What happened?” She asks. I set up and wiped the tears from my cheeks. “I couldn’t fight the fear, I heard what Addison and her friends were saying too, I’m not worthy of being the king’s mate,” I tell her, trying my hardest to not break down again. “But Charlee, we’ve spent hours talking about how badly we couldn’t wait to find our mates and you found yours! I have to say he is smoking hot.” Her comment on Greyson’s hotness made me smile. “I regret leaving him down here with nothing, but an ‘I’m sorry, I’m a terrible mate,” I say back.

“Charlee, I’m sure he would understand if you just told him. I’d be fearful too if I had to hear about my dad being cruel to my mom. ” She says and I look up at her and smile. She was right, I just need to be truthful. “Now, let's fix your make-up, so you can go get that god of a mate before Addison tries to dig her claws into him.” She says and goes to get my makeup out of the bathroom. She fixes what ruined my crying. I put my hair in a nice bun and put my heels back on.

The moment we came down the stairs we heard a commotion coming from the packed hall, it was followed by a loud growl. Carissa and I looked at each other, then ran to the hall doors as fast as we could. Once we got into the doorway we saw Jaren’s wolf growling, showing teeth. Greyson seemed unaffected by Jaren’s challenge. Anger went through me as I watched Jaren’s act. “Jaren shift now!” I heard my papa yell in his alpha tone, but Jaren didn’t listen. He just disrespected my grandfather, his alpha with defiance. He disrespected my papa, our king and my mate, and our pack, making it look like we are a bunch of feral wolves that just challenge anyone. I see Jaren getting ready to charge at Greyson, I shift into my snow-white, shredding my dress and shoes. I charge at Jaren and ram into his side, knocking him down on the floor. He gets back up and looks at me, turning his head to the side confused. I get into a defensive stance in front of Greyson. Jaren looks at him again and shows his teeth. I roar at him getting his attention back. “Jaren, you will stand down, this instance!” I scream at him over the mind link. “Charlee?” He asks.

“Now SHIFT! And don’t even think about defying me like you just did with my grandfather, if you care to not leave here in an ambulance!” I roared over the mind link in an alpha tone. Jaren lowered his head and tucked his tail. He didn’t shift back to his human form, but he ran out of the pack hall as fast as he could. That was embarrassing, I looked around at my pack members and they all looked at me in shock. “Charlotte, you left the mind link open.” My papa says to me. I just look back and smile at him. I turn around and walk toward Greyson and sit in front of him, smiling and my tongue hanging out like a puppy. He chuckles and kneels, he puts his warm hand on the side of my face and I couldn’t help but rub my scent into his hand.

Papa ended the mate ball early because of Jaren’s actions. I went back downstairs after getting dressed to pick up what was left of my dress. Greyson’s scent came to my nose and all I could do was smile. “You did look stunning in that dress.” He says as steps off the last stair step. He was in sweats and a tee-shirt, it was still weird to see. “Thank you, Your Majesty,” I say and I feel blood rush to my cheeks.

“Charlee, we’re mates, you don’t need to address me like that anymore.” He says, putting a hand on my cheek. I take a step back, getting nervous. “I should get to bed, I have training in the morning,” I say quickly and get past him. I hear him sigh just as I reach the first landing on the stairs. It makes me stop and want to turn around, but out of fear, I don’t.
