Klaus comes back with a stake in his hand. He stops in front of me, holding it up.
Klaus: “Did you know about this?”
I’m confused why he would ask me that with no context.
Allison: “Know what?”
He slams it on the table behind himself.
Klaus: “The Salvatores found white oak and made stakes out of them to kill me and my siblings. Tonight they killed Finn, while you were here to distract me. Was this all part of some plan?”
He’s furious, and it honestly scares me, but I feel like I can’t leave yet.
Allison: “Klaus, I have no idea what the Salvatores have been up to. Damon has left me in the dark on all of their plans. I was too busy dealing with my father’s death, and my feelings for you, to even check in on them. I’ve never heard of white oak before.”
He’s still angry, but I can tell he believes me. He turns to the fireplace, throwing the stake in it. I get up and take hold of his hand as he looks startled at my actions.
Allison: “I’m sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose someone close to you while you were still upset with them.”
His eyes soften before I hug him, and he returns my hug, almost crushing me in the process.
Klaus: “Once I have the last two stakes, I will be leaving this town. I hope I can persuade you to come with me.”
I look up at him a bit startled by the news.
Allison: “Nik, I don’t know if I can do that. My family and friends are here. My whole life is here. We are only just getting to really know each other.”
He puts his hands on my cheeks. I know he’s trying to comfort me, but my mind feels like it’s going a million miles an hour, and it’s overwhelming.
Klaus: “You don’t have to make a decision right now. But know this: I will be taking Elena with me. Your friends have left you in the dark on many things now. I will never hide anything important from you, and you are always safe with me. I’ll give you a few days to think it over.”
He kisses my forehead and escorts me to my car.
Allison: “Wait, what about Damon?”
Klaus: “I sent him home with his brother. I wouldn’t let him see you, because I needed to speak with you first.”
I nod.
Allison: “I can’t pretend that any of this was okay, but I promise I will think about whether I’ll join you or not.”
He smiles.
Klaus: “That’s all I ask.”
I kiss his cheek and drive myself home.
My feelings for Klaus are causing so much turmoil in me that I can’t even sleep. I’m so restless that I take melatonin and drink some bourbon with root beer, just to make it work faster. Once I wake up, I’m very groggy and super hungry. I try to do my usual morning routine, but I’m so distracted by everything.
It’s ridiculous, really. I should hate Klaus for everything he’s done to my friends and family. I just can’t help my feelings for him. He’s the only man I’ve ever truly desired. Nothing felt right with my previous boyfriends. I never knew why, but with Klaus, I just want him. He’s different from the others, not just because he’s a hybrid. Something about him makes everything feel so right. I feel safe with him, like he won’t ever betray me. But I can’t leave my sister behind. I also can’t leave Elena to be a human blood bag alone with Klaus. She’ll be so terrified and in pain for the rest of her life.
It’s been a few days since then, and Caroline asked for my help with the Decade Dance. I never expected to hear her say the theme is the Roaring 20s instead of the 70s. As I get ready to leave my house, someone rings my doorbell. Opening the door, I find Klaus on the other side.
Klaus: “Hello, Love. Am I interrupting anything?”
Allison: “No, I was about to head over to the school. Caroline just told me about the dance.”
Klaus: “Well then, it looks like I arrived just in time. Allison, would you accompany me to the Decade Dance tonight?”
Allison: “I will. But don’t get me a dress. Caroline already did.”
Klaus: “Fair enough, Love. I’ll pick you up tonight.”
He takes my hand, kissing it before leaving. I definitely felt more flustered than usual by his actions. I really need to sort through what I want, and I only have till tomorrow morning to give him an answer. Finally, I make it to the school, in time to see Caroline yelling at Matt and Jeremy.
Caroline: “What are you doing? You can’t just hang them. They’re supposed to trickle down.”
Allison: “Hey, when did Jeremy come back?”
Caroline: “Ally, you made it.”
She hugs me and Elena sheepishly smiles.
Elena: “Damon and I went to get him after Klaus threatened Bonnie.”
I nod, before pulling her into a hug.
Allison: “Everything will be okay, Elena. It will all get better soon.”
Elena: “I hope so. I asked Matt to help Jeremy readjust. Matt got him his old job back at the Grill.”
Caroline: “Well, that was nice of him.”
Elena: “Mhm. Jeremy’s got a lot on his mind. The whole thing with Alaric has got him stressed out.”
I look at the two of them, completely confused while they seem to know exactly what’s going on.
Allison: “What thing with Alaric?”
Elena: “The thing about the Gilbert rings.”
They both look at me like I should know what’s going on already.
Allison: “What are you talking about? What haven’t you two told me?”
Elena: “Oh, I guess you’re a bit out of the loop.”
Caroline: “To be fair, she’s been separated because of Klaus. We just forgot to tell her with all this craziness going on.”
Allison: “Girls, what is going on with Alaric and the Gilbert rings?”
They sigh before finally filling me in on how, if you die too many times with the Gilbert rings on, you develop a dark side. Apparently, it was Alaric who was killing the founders and the one that murdered my father.
Allison: “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Elena: “It wasn’t intentional. We have been so busy with everything, we just forgot. Everyone else knows.”
Klaus was right. They’ve been leaving me out. They have always done this. I know it’s not on purpose most of the time, but it’s become far too frequent lately.
Allison: “Who is everyone? Who else knows?”
Caroline: “Matt, Damon, Stefan, Tyler, Jeremy, Bonnie, Alaric, and the three of us.”
Allison: “So really, everyone but me, till now. I’m gonna go help the boys, do whatever you two want over here.”
They try to call my name, but I ignore them as I join Matt and Jeremy, directing them on how to hang the stars properly. Caroline joins me a few minutes later.
Caroline: “Ally, hold on. I need to talk to you.”
Allison: “Care, I’m not in the mood to talk right now.”
I try to keep getting things ready.
Caroline: “Well, as much as I hate to admit it, that’s not as important right now.”
I look up at her, confused as to why she would say that about an event she’s putting together.
Allison: “Who are you and what have you done with my sister?”
She giggles.
Caroline: “Seriously, I need to tell you this. I’m sorry we didn’t keep you in the loop. I didn’t want to give you more to worry about, but you need to know something we found out. When Matt killed Finn, we discovered the entire line of vampires he created died with him. We don’t know who sired our line, so we don’t plan on attacking any of the originals.”
I had no idea just how big the secrets they were keeping were until now.
Allison: “When did you find out about this?”
Caroline: “The night when you were with Klaus while Rebekah was torturing Damon. I’ve been so worried about telling you some stuff because of your feelings for Klaus. We also had you distract him a couple times.”
I feel completely betrayed. I told her about my developing feelings for him, but I never expected her to keep me out of the loop because of it.
Allison: “I have to leave.”
She tries to stop me, but I put up a hand, cutting her off.
Allison: “Care, I don’t hate you. I know you had your reasons. But I’m very disappointed in you. Not only did you hide things from me, but you could’ve died because of it. I need some time alone.”
I leave the school, going to Klaus’ house. After knocking on the door, Klaus opens it.
Allison: “I’ve made my decision. I’ll leave with you.”
Klaus: “Wonderful. We leave tomorrow.”
