Chapter 6: The Pretentious Queen

"King Glaicus," Pinnacus called the king who's at the balcony, staring over the horizon, appreciating the kingdom he believed he already owned.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Yes, Pinnacus. Do you need anything?" he asked. His arms were at his back, still facing the balcony and did not even glance at his right hand man.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Your Highness, we have a report that the south forest currently has a wildfire. W-we need water mages to help us." He bowed even though he was facing the king's back.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"You are aware that we do not have any water mages in the palace. How do you want me to help? I myself am using a black fire element." His tone was firm and authoritative.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"B-but we need to put out the fire in the forest or we will be in danger. The wild beast would find a sanctuary, and the capital is the closest place for them. We also harvest the woods we use from that forest."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Ask the queen if she wants to help. Her snow power will suffice if it melted." He waved his hand to dismiss Pinnacus.

"T-thank you, Your Highness." He bowed.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Wait." The king raised his hand. "Make an announcement that the palace is looking for elemental mages. We are going to conduct an evaluation and examination at the end of this month. Their monthly wages are high enough for them to decline it. You may go now."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Yes, Your Highness." He bowed again before leaving.

Pinnacus headed straight to the queen's chamber. "Your Highness. It's Pinnacus."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Come in, Pinnacus," the queen said. "Do you need anything?"
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
He bowed before speaking. "The south forest has wildfire and we do not have any water mage in the palace... the king suggested your snow power and wished you could help us put out the fire."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The queen sighed. "Let's go then." She walked regally, chin was up and her hands were placed in front.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Pinnacus bowed down, then followed the queen. The queen opened a portal to pass through towards the south forest entrance. She and the right hand man walked through it. They appeared near the entrance of the south forest. They could see smoke and fire on it. A lot of people were fetching water from the well using a water bucket, but it wasn't enough to put out a fire as huge as this.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I'll take care of this." She raised her arms and moved them in circling motion, creating a void-like image in circles. Snow formed surrounding the queen. She pushed her two hands, releasing a strong power towards the forest. A snow blew from the queen, too strong enough to engulf the fire and froze everything. The fire was put out and the people of Maho celebrated in happiness.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Hail to the queen!" everyone shouted.
"All glory to the queen of Maho!"
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Pinnacus clapped. "I didn't make the wrong choice of supporting you, my queen."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Thank you," she said coldly. "Can I go back now? I will leave you here and take care of the rest."

"Yes, Your Highness." Pinnacus bowed in delight.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The queen opened a portal and passed through it to go back to the palace.
Her bravery, kindness and strong power spread through the capital. She became the heroine who helped the kingdom in times of disaster. Everyone told different stories about her, and each story with add-ons and invented words were passed down to other people.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"The queen opened the gates of heaven and put out the fire in the woods," one of the female sellers in the capital said to her buyer on her side street stall.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Really? That would be amazing to see!" the lady buyer said in exaggeration.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"They even put out a notice of invitation to all elemental mages to be the Royal Mages. Maybe the queen will train them. There will be an examination and evaluation before you can get in." She pointed at the bulletin wall. "You can see the details there."

"Thank you." Soira covered her head and went straight to the bulletin wall. "You will pay for all the sins you have done, Ezra." She lowered her head and walked away.
