Chapter 8 The Royal Mage Selection

An old man in his sixties walked to the center of the arena. It was a huge stage in the middle of an open field where the audience surrounds the arena. "Welcome to the Royal Mages Examination. Here, we only accept true images with exceptional elemental and other forms of power. Of course, those who have the basic elemental powers will be acknowledged and accepted on a different level." He raised his arm and showed one finger. "The ordinary mages with common powers but useful will earn 100 gold coins per month. "Here." He opened his palm and created a handful of seeds of fruits and crops. He even made them slowly grow on his palm.
The man was amazed. "You're in. Write your name here and here's your token."

"Thank you!" He wrote down his name, Si Mon.

"Si Mon?" the Sub Royal Mage asked.
"Yes, please call me Si Mon." He grinned and laughed. Si Mon in their town means flat nose, but his nose is not flat. It is pointed with a high bridge.

The Sub Royal Mage also laughed. "You may proceed to the testing arena. Goodluck, Si Mon."

"Thank you." He bowed before leaving the registration area.

He walked straight towards the testing arena's entrance. His heart was beating fast when he saw how many examinees there were and how intimidating they looked.

"There are so many examinees, right?" he said to the person in front of him, wearing a black cloak.

"There are," a female voice responded.
"I'm sorry, I thought you're a man..." He bowed. There's a strict rule in Maho Kingdom; a strange man could never talk or come close to a female mage he barely knew or else you will be in big trouble. Powerful women mages in Maho Kingdom were respected and on high pedestal because their count diminished as years went by. This law was implemented five years ago.
