Chapter 18 The Attack

1024 Words
Almost everyone was sleeping at the foot of the mountain. Only the sound of wind, crickets and birds could be heard. Dwight woke up, feeling alarmed. He went out from the second carriage to look around to see if there was a threat of danger coming from the darkest part of the forest. He felt relieved when there was no sign of unknown movement anywhere. He saw some of their soldiers walking around, guarding their safety. He was about to go back to sleep when an arrow shot one of the soldiers, then another one was shot again. A group of bandits came out from the dark, holding spears and bows. He guessed there were around twenty men in their group surrounding them. The soldiers got up and prepared for a fight. Arrows were shot from everywhere. Some of the soldiers were quick enough to pick their shield and to take cover. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "You're messing with the wrong person," Dwight said. Aina heard the chaos outside her carriage. She peeked through the window and saw her soldiers fighting armed men wearing black masks. "Dwight!" ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "Just stay there, Princess Aina!" He spread his arms and released his power. Twelve swords appeared, aiming in different directions. The swords went straight to the bow and arrow wielders from the bandits. They fell down and died instantly. The remaining bandits were shocked when they saw the power of Dwight. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "He's a metal element controller!" one of the bandits said. "Let's escape now!" They all walked backwards then started running away. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "Do you think you can all escape from me?" His mouth twitched. He magically forged knives and used them to attack the bandits. They were all hit through their chests and died instantly. Dwight looked around to see how many casualties they had. "Gather everyone who was hurt to cure them, and pile those fallen ones. We will send them back to their families." The soldiers followed his order. The young princess felt burdened. People died because of her; because she was weak. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "I'm fine, don't worry, Your Highness." He bowed. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "H-how are the others?" Aina asked. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "We do not know the number of casualties yet, Princess Aina, but we are working on it." ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "P-please make sure that everyone gets compensated, especially the families of the fallen ones. Put their names on the heroes' list," she ordered. At the age of twelve, she can already make a wise decision. She may not be powerful, but she's smart enough to analyze and decide in a situation like this. The Royal Mages have been teaching her not only magic but also good governance and academics. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ "That is excellent, Princess Aina. We will do it." He bowed before walking away to check the soldiers. Aina leaned on the edge of the window. Too many people sacrificed just for her. "All your sacrifices won't go in vain, my soldiers. I will be the best mage in Maho World, so I can protect my people."
