ADRIAN’S POV

“Mum what is it that you want to tell me?, you’ve been staring at the wall for too long and it’s creeping me out mum”

“Well..” she said

Before she could continue, the kitchen door opened and my dad walked in

The moment she saw him, she froze.

She quickly collected the picture and walked out of the kitchen without saying another word.

“Dad, what's wrong with mum?”I said

“Nothing son,I’m going to bed”he replied

“Ok me too”

I left the kitchen, but I couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened.

What was in that picture?

And why did my parents suddenly look like they were hiding something from me?

THE NEXT DAY

I sat down in class waiting for Selena

I checked the time.

She was late.

After a while, my phone buzzed.

Selena: Meet me at the library.

For some reason, I was actually happy to see her.

I grabbed my things and headed to the library.

“I couldn’t finish everything yesterday but I was able to do a little bit, did you do the research assignment?” Selena told me while glaring at me

“Uhm, I may have forgotten about that”I replied

“Are you kidding me?? Just a research paper and you couldn’t do anything? We are so failing this class”

She angrily took her things and left the library and I rushed after her

“Look Selena I’m sorry, something happened at home that’s why…”

See, I don’t care what happened,” she interrupted. “I’m not surprised something even happened because of the type of family you come from.”

I stopped walking.

Her words hit me harder than I expected.

I knew our families hated each other. Everyone knew.

But hearing her say it directly to me still hurt.

“Look, I’m sorry ok? I’m going to work on it like right now and I promise it will be done at the end of the day”

“Better be fast” she said while walking off to the parking lot

On getting to my class, I saw Liam

“Hey Liam”

“Wassup my man” Liam said

“I f****d up”

“What happened?!!! You sound worried”

“My research paper I was meant to do yesterday, I forgot to do it and now Selena is angry at me”

“Wait a wholeeeee Adrian Vaughn is worried someone is angry at him and it’s Selena his family’s rival, wow, you better don’t let your parents hear about this”

“I hate you”

After my classes I did the research paper and me and Selena agreed to meet at the library

“Hey” I said

“Hi, before you say anything I’m sorry for the way I spoke to you this morning and also for insulting your family even tho I don’t like them but.. friends?”she said stretching her hands forward

“Yes friends, and also I’m done with the research paper” I replied handing the paper to her

“Ok it’s good, I’ll go now we’ll catch up later”

“Uhm Selena, do you want to hang out with me another time?.. I know our families hate each other but we can do it in secret you know..”I said rubbing my hands together

“Sure friend” she replied smiling

She walked away, leaving me standing there with a smile on my face

I watched Selena walk away until she disappeared around the corner.

I was about to leave when I noticed someone standing at the end of the hallway.

They were staring directly at me.

The moment our eyes met, they quickly turned and walked away.

I frowned.

Who was that?

And why did I have a feeling they had heard everything?
