Nathans POV.
There were foot steps all around us, it was still night outside though I was unsure of the time. I woke Tin and noticed that Amira was missing panicked I tried to mind link her, but no answer. We didn’t even have time to grab our belongings we just ran, jumping over the roots of the trees.
“HALT!” a loud domineering growl called to us. My brain still told us to run but I could not force my legs to move. It was like my feet were cemented to the ground. Tinsley was sniffing around in the air the look on her face made her look entranced.
“I am Sir Kaname, beta to the Alpha king, state your names” He commanded. His whereabouts still unknown to us, his scent seemed to surround us.
“I am Nathan & this is Tinsley we are looking for our friend Amira” I sighed.
I heard the limbs above us shake as a large man jumped down in front of us, he quickly examined me and then turned to Tinsley immediately walking to her and wrapping his arm around her passionately staring at her like they were long time friends that had been separated. Tinsley appeared comfortable in his arms returning his gaze. I reached over to grab Tinsley and bring her to my side like the protective big brother I was. Kaname snapped his head towards me growling possessively.
“Dude, its my sister” I snapped. He continued to glare at me assessing whether or not I was lying. Tinsley placed her arm on his and confirmed what I was saying. I understand we don’t favor too much and most people wouldn’t believe we were siblings.
“I was sent here to collect you both, the king requests your presence immediately, gather your belongings and follow me”
I started to walk back towards our make shift camp and gathered mine and Amira’s bags, Kaname grabbed Tinsley’s and carried it for her. Slightly annoyed by him it was obvious my baby sister had found her mate, though I was happy for her I was not sure how I felt about this man. We walked through the forest I could smell Amira’s scent faintly but it was not just hers, there was another man here. All thoughts of how she could be in danger flashed into my mind and worry crept over me. I tried linking with her again and still no answer in return. It did not feel like she had a wall up, just like I couldn’t reach her. “Have you seen our friend? I can smell her but I can not reach her” I asked hoping that she was at the castle safe. Tinsley gave me a look of concern when Kaname did not answer but instead kept walking. “hello?” I said annoyed at his lack of communication skills.
“when we reach the palace your questions will be answered” He responded coldly. Tin just shrugged her shoulders at me given the fact she didn’t look scared I assumed that she did not have one of her feelings, but to be sure I linked her “ Tin, do you feel anything?”
“Nothing, neither bad or good, but I think that’s at least a good sign” She returned. We had both slowed our pace considerably and Kaname had noticed stopping for us to catch up to him. He grabbed Tin’s hand and pulled her along side him. The closer we got to wherever he was taking us the stronger Mira’s scent got. This put my mind at ease. As we approached the castle the sun was beginning to rise the fog coating most of the woods and the castle made the place look even more magical than it felt. A knot grew in my stomach as we crossed over the bridge to the entrance of the castle. Although the grounds of looked immaculate there was a off feeling to this place. We approached the large doors entering the castle and as we passed the thresh hold there were more guards enclosing on us.
“His majesty wants them in the royal hall” one guard announced.
The guards trailed a little distance behind us as we continued following Kaname. We entered into what I assumed was the Royal hall. As we approached the king sat upon his throne, I could smell Amira. Kaname and the rest of the guards kneeled Tinsley and I quickly following behind them as to not insult his highness, I rolled my eyes in my mind.
“Your Highness, these are the ones you requested us to find” Kaname said with his head bowed.
“I assume that you are Nathan” He stated with a sly smirk.
“Yes, I am. We are looking for our friend Amira” I said not meeting his gaze.
“She is safe and no longer a concern for you.” He responded with his smirk growing to a grin.
“Why not?” I said more irritated than intended.
“Know your place, you do not speak in such a tone to the king of supernaturals” One of the guards said before the king could speak.
“She is safe and happy, I will allow the woman with you to see her, but not you” he said while glaring at me. That was it, he could not keep my friend, the woman I love away from me.
“Your highness with all due respect Amira and I have a bond, and I just want to see her with my own eyes.” I said this time I was the one smirking which I soon regretted as the anger flashed across his face.
“And what bond would you have with my mate” He yelled jumping to his feet standing tall above me with his fists clenched.
Mate, no this could not happen not after what we had shared the other night. We were going to continue this relationship and I intended on marking her. I wanted to cry right there, but did not want to give the king that satisfaction knowing I was so easily broken. I have always loved her since we were little. We grew up together shared secrets, I left my life behind to be with her just to see her happiness be fulfilled. It was unfair that the goddess took this away from us. I realized that I was having a breakdown in front of everyone as soon as Tinsley reached over to rub my back speaking to my mind saying “Nate, its okay, if he is truly her mate she is safe and Im sure she is happy.” I just shook my head trying to shake off the negative feelings. If I could hear it from her then I would accept it. She just needed to look me in my face and tell me that she wanted to be with him over me, it would hurt like hell but I needed this from her.
“You’re majesty we are friends I care for her and want her happiness” I tried my best to sound unfazed by his news.
“AS I STATED. Your female companion may see her” He seethed “ I am aware of your companionship.”
Our eyes locked onto each other. “Fine, Ill stand by while Tinsley checks on her.” Tinsley nodded to me before she spoke to the king. “Tell her I need to speak to her” I linked Tin. She did not respond to me just turned to face the king. Smiling she said “Your highness may I be allowed to speak with her?” The king had the biggest grin on his face knowing he won. “Yes but first you will be shown to your room and be allowed to clean up.” She nodded in response bowing her head to stand up as Kaname stood to escort her.
“May I await my sister in the garden outside?” I looked to the king who was glaring at me.
“Do you think I did not realize your plan?” He said smirking “You will be given a room and under observation.”
I wasn’t even able to object before I was seized and escorted to a room far away from the royal hall. I was forced into a room that looked more like a prison cell. No window and as far as I could tell no escape. I sat on the hard bed placing my hands on my head hoping that Amira would come to me.
