Chapter Forty-Nine
“How do we do this without causing my parents to lose everything?” Chloé asks me as she follows me from my office in the vineyard.
She has asked Angelo to find her something to do because she can’t very well putter around the house all day doing nothing while my mother and Anna are occupied with their affairs. She doesn’t want to impose or seem lazy. And soon she began working with us.
I admire that in her.
As I walk through the vines, I have a strange feeling I am being led by her, as if she is showing me there is an easier path than the one I have been walking the last several years. A path with less shadows and less thorns.
