Chapter 2: Starting the Apocalypse

Luke went out to eat dinner at a restaurant.
As he ate, he noticed how the well-off people ate happily as they chatted among each other. They would then stand up without finishing their food and leave.
Outside the restaurant, the poor waited in the alley behind, waiting for the leftovers to be thrown away so they can have their fill.
Humans were still as ugly as he remembered.
Of course, he knew that not all humans were like this. There are some who are good. Like that girl...
But is this how it is supposed to be?
Is the world supposed to look like this?
The corrupt live happy lives but the good continues to struggle in their lives.
A world like this...
"Needs a reset..."
Luke mumbled but then shook his head.
He doesn't care about anyone else. All he wanted to is to bring her back and live his peaceful happy life once again.
"I'm going to need more test subjects though...Athena, how many corpses do we have left?"
"We don't have any more left, Sir Luke."
"..."
Luke fell silent.
He glanced at the people in the restaurant as he thought.
Don't I have plenty more subjects to test on?
Luke no longer said anything and left after finishing his food.
He went to the supermarket and bought everything he could buy.
All the ingredients, canned foods, snacks, even candies.
He emptied his pockets and started to prepare.
His whole base is underground as his experiments could be seen as 'inhumane' so he had to work on it secretly.
Luke had everything delivered and brought down to him. Everyone just thought he's a rich guy fooling around by preparing an underground shelter.
Other than gossiping about it, no one minded him much.
It took a whole week to prepare everything.
Finally, he packed the zombies he had in his lab and shipped them out to various countries, labeling them as 'ground-breaking discoveries' as he sent them to the various governments in the world.
His name was worth it's gold. No one suspected him and they all thought that he had gifted him something amazing.
As for why? Who cares about that! Maybe Luke is in a good mood or something!
Perhaps if they had been the only ones to receive it, they might be cautious. But Luke had sent a world leader at least one box. It's impossible that he would harm all of them at once right?
...Unfortunately, that is indeed the case.
By the time they all opened to see what it is, the zombies popped out and started their m******e.
As the world leaders were the first to fall, the world was thrown into disorder.
People started dying and turning one after the other.
At first, the zombies were sluggish, but they started to learn how to run...and they soon started to hunt for the living.
Outside.
A group of friends who had hung out for karaoke earlier today is now running for their lives.
"s**t! s**t! s**t! s**t!"
"What the f**k are those things!?"
"i***t! Don't you watch movies!? They're obviously zombies!"
"f**k you! I know what they are! But why the f**k are they in real life!?"
"How the hell would I know!?"
Suddenly, a zombie charged at them from the side.
One of the guys quickly swung a wooden pole that he found among the debris.
The pole smacked at the zombie's head but it wasn't powerful enough to blow its head off. It only made the zombie angrier.
"f**k!"
In his panic, he dragged one of the girls with them and pushed her to the zombie.
"No! Jace you f*****g bastard!"
"Run!"
Jace ignored her and quickly shouted to run away.
The others hesitated only for a moment before they grit their teeth and ran as well.
"Nooo! f**k you! Don't you f*****g leave me!"
"Ah!?"
The girl grabbed onto one of the guys in her anger as she dug her nails onto his skin.
The guy winced in pain and kicked the girl without holding back.
"b***h! Let go!"
However, the girl had already accepted her fate. All she wanted now was to drag someone else along with her to their death.
Soon, the zombie grabbing onto the girl started to bite her and another zombie also approached the guy she was holding onto and started to eat.
"Nooooo!!!"
In the distance, Jace heard their screams and continued to run.
After running for a while, they found a relatively safe place to hide in order to catch their breaths.
"Jace...what the hell did you just do!?"
"Shut up!"
Jace shouted in anger.
"I did what I had to do to survive! Didn't you lot also ran away with me!?"
"But..."
Before the guy could speak again, Jace punched him in the face.
"You fucker! If you don't like it then get the f**k out!"
"..."
The guy gritted his teeth and left.
Jace glared at his back then at the others.
They all looked at each other and followed the guy who just left.
They were afraid. Afraid that Jace would use them as bait next time...
Jace saw they were all leaving, he punched the wall in anger.
"f**k! Those f*****g bastards! They dared to go against me!?"
Suddenly, he heard footsteps from behind.
There was a little girl silently looking at him.
"What the f**k are you looking at brat!?"
The girl opened her mouth...and all of a sudden, she was already hanging onto Jace's neck with her teeth dug into his neck.
"Gh-!? N-noooo!!! f**k! Let go of me!"
"Grrrrr..."
However, he only had himself to blame for shouting so loudly and hitting the wall. Now the zombies around him knew where he is and had surrounded him.
"AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"
Such scenes weren't only limited to them as they could be seen everywhere.
Friends, turning on each other.
Families, broken apart.
Slowly, the people began to become warier over each other instead of banding together to fight against the common enemy.
Luke observed all of this from his underground shelter through the cameras and his own satellite.
"Humans are really a disappointment."
"Sir, aren't you a human as well?"
Athena asked.
Luke didn't say anything as he thought in his mind.
Is he still 'human' for starting the Apocalypse?
Some might call him a monster. Someone worse than even a zombie...after all, he was the one who made these zombies.
Then...what is he?
"It doesn't matter."
It doesn't matter what he becomes.
All he wanted was one thing.
To bring her back.
