EightStephan sat in a chair by the woman's bed, puzzling over Kai's guest. Who was she, and why did Kai threaten him over her safety? He remembered his reaction, and it made him cringe. He'd all but rolled over and showed his belly. As it was, it took a huge amount of will not to bare his throat. It was embarrassing. Kai would pay for that and for so much more. If only he could taste a drop of her blood, then he'd know everything. He couldn't risk Kai finding out, though—she'd been uninjured when she arrived. He jostled the bed. She continued to sleep.
