FifteenKai watched Te dress from his comfortable burrow in the bed. Te's blood eased his hunger, but his heart still ached.
“You should go see your new property.”
“I know. I've been avoiding her.”
After Te had finished dressing—in a rather dapper, fuchsia suit with light yellow piping, complete with pork-pie hat and yellow bowtie—he sat on the bed. “With Luc gone you'll have a lot more time on your hands. While technically a slave, she could also be a companion.”
Kai had propped himself on his elbow and now dropped back down with a sigh.
“I took the liberty of informing her of her new role as well as giving her some background on the City,” Te said before filling Kai in on his encounters with Roberta.
“Parade her out during the Rendering. It would do your reputation a world of good,”
