I was quiet in the car as Desmond drove me back. It was the dead of the night, yet I felt so safe. We were alone in a confined space again, his scent inevitably blowing into my nose. My heartbeat had settled at a crazy pace, not slowing down again.
The mate bond sizzled and dared me to reach for him, to trail my fingers along his skin, to know if he was as warm as his presence felt.
When he glanced at me, I looked away, but he already caught me. He laughed, and I found the sound entirely too pleasing.
