Desmond's POV
"f**k!" I groaned, my head tipped back in pleasure as MacKenzie's tongue swiped over my c**k like a damn vixen. Her cheeks hollowed, as she sucked me like this was her sole life's purpose. My hands tightened around her silky dark hair, as I helped her move, pushing myself deeper until I filled her throat.
I was hosting a ball, and people were gathered already. My Beta and Gamma had sent me a tonne of mindlinks, but I'd never been the one to turn down a blow job. Knowing Kenzie, I knew that it would put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. She knew how to work magic with her mouth.
After she'd swallowed every drop of c*m I'd released, she got up, looking so proud of herself. She puffed her chest out, drawing my attention to her breasts and hard n*****s only covered by a scandalous piece of see through material. I'd only looked at her once, before deciding that she was worth the delay.
"Are you going to come back so we can finish what we started?" She asked, fingers stroking my chest.
We've had this relationship for a while now. She never hid how much she lusted over me, and I'd fallen the first time she tried to seduce me. I'd f****d her so thoroughly, she kept coming back for more.
"Pray I don't find my mate then." I joked.
Truly, I hoped not to find my mate. This whole mating ball was my father's idea. The old man refused to retire in peace. He would rather stick his nose in my business.
"And if you find her?" Mackenzie asked, and I spotted a slight tremor in her voice, before she masked it again. "She will be my Luna."
"Let the future take care of itself," I murmured, slipping my fingers between her legs, because I couldn't resist feeling her wetness. "We don't have enough time. I would have taken care of this pretty cunt of yours."
She gasped, wanting to grab me again, but I pulled back.
"I need to dress up."
I left her and went into the bathroom to have a quick shower again. Then I dressed up.
After I was certain that I didn't look anything like a beautiful woman was on her knees before me, I exited the room.
Two warriors standing outside bowed, before proceeding to follow me. Mackenzie on the other hand, walked along with them. She didn't have to, but I didn't mind.
Our relationship was purely transactional. We both got s****l satisfaction from each other. But I still respected her as a person. The only down side now was that I suspected she wanted more from me. I didn't see her in that way at all. And I didn't have more to offer her.
My wolf was agitated even before we got to the ballroom. As if there was something there that he just couldn't wait to see.
The whole place fell silent as all eyes turned to me when the attendant announced my name. I initially took a look at the swarm of ladies gathered at one side, most of them hoping they could end up with me.
The prospect excited me as much as the probability of finding an ocean in the Sahara. But then I looked forward, my heart drummed unusually loud, the fleeting scent of rain and spring feeling my lungs. Something told me that my life was about to change today.
Without looking at her, I whisked the glass of tequila off MacKenzie's hands, and I drank it all at once. Something to prepare me for what I was going to face.
I walked further in, seeing a blurred figure ahead, and when she became clear to me, I was standing right in front of Davina Rose Carson. From my peripherals, I noticed someone else standing there. Head bowed, looking angelic with her long wavy auburn hair and silver dress that made it seem like she was hand carved by the goddess and sent to supervise us on earth.
But my attention was on Davina. And I heard the confirmation at the back of my mind.
"Mate."
Something in me snapped. A whirlpool of emotions and possessiveness. I needed to claim her now. This instant or I might just die.
"Lady Davina," she stiffened when I called her name and stretched out my hand. "You're my mate."
She let out a small confused laugh. "You're mistaken." She shook her head. "I'm not..."
"I can smell you." I smiled at her, confident that she just wanted to play games.
Lucien got up at that moment, eyes all storm and fury as she shoved me away from her. "Stay the f**k away from Davina!"
I knew Lucien liked her. But they were not mates. If they were, I wouldn't feel the mate bond with her.
"What's your deal with her?" I yelled back, shoving my hands at his chest. "You have a fiancee which you abandoned all for her." There was someone he was supposed to marry— a Beta's daughter from another pack. But he was too obsessed with Davina that he abandoned her. "She's mine."
Davina lowered and face and muttered words under her breath as she looked around. She was embarrassed, and this was all Lucien's fault.
"Can't you see?" She murmured, voice calm and lovely. "I am not your mate. I don't feel anything for you. Your mate is here. You are confusing our scent." The words came out slowly, each sentence drawn with enough emphasis to make me understand.
A deep shaky inhale made me turn to look at the angel by my side. She looked distressed, hands clenched tightly, looking like she was going to break down any second. Something pinched my heart the longer I stared at her. A small, suppressed part of my consciousness wanted me to comfort her. But I couldn't do so in front of my mate.
Before I could even make sense of why she had that effect on me, she ran out of the room and Alpha Sienna went after her.
That was out of the way now, so I faced my mate again. "It's you," I insisted, in case she was still having doubts. "You're my mate."
"One more mention of Davina being your mate, and you might never get to speak again." Lucien fumed, making anger curl up my spine. He was still making claims on my mate.
I bared my fangs as I got ready to attack him, my nails sharpening into claws. Lucien stood there, hands steady on Davina's waist, but looking ready to pounce.
"Oh f**k!" Alpha Marco rushed over, wanting to end the fight before it began, but my warriors hurried to surround me.
"I'm sorry Alpha, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave before things get out of hand." Dominic, my Beta said to Lucien, and I heard Davina asking him to leave with her.
She didn't want me. She wanted to leave with him even though we were mates.
"You are not going anywhere with him." I bellowed. This was my pack, and no one could leave if I gave the order. I was going to swing at Lucien if Dominic didn't block my way.
"What's gotten into you? You're making an embarrassment of yourself!" He sounded so appalled, and his voice was coated with disappointment. But I didn't care.
Davina grabbed Lucien's hand and they began to run out, while Dominic blocked my path. I'd never felt more need to kill my Beta before.
"Davina!" I yelled her name, but she was already gone.
The moment she stepped out of the ballroom and I lost sight of her, I felt a sudden chill. It was as if someone clicked their fingers in front of me, and I was shaken to reality.
I looked around to see all eyes on me, everyone staring at me like I was a clown.
I was going after Davina? Claiming her as mine? In the presence of the whole crowd?
My chest tightened even further when I remembered auburn hair and silver dress. She was looking at me like she expected me to come to her.
I didn't understand.
What the hell just happened?
What have I done?
