The Only Friend I Ever Had

1197 Words

Queen Cassandra watched her son come through a window on the left side of the castle. She couldn’t recall ever seeing him open the doors of his study and he was extremely strict about not being disturbed when he was in. Sometimes he behaved just like his father—keeping himself cooped up in such a small room, doing who knows what. Cassandra was worried about what she’d find if she went in there and she didn’t want to incur her son’s wrath. She knew his father was hurting him at some point; but she was afraid, just like she’d always been to confront him head-on. When she’d brought it up with the old dragon king, he’d simply warned her that he could do whatever he wanted with his son. He threatened to kick her out of Drayton if she opposed him and asked her to keep turning a blind eye.
