“He’s part of the mafia.” Amanda tells me matter of factly.
I blink at her, waiting for her to laugh, and tell me she just wanted to see my reaction, but there was nothing else after that. “Are you seriously joking with me right now?” I say. I’m about to cry with how stressed and upset I am that she even thought to lie to me.
But Amanda doesn’t say she was lying. Instead she just confirms what she said, “I know it sounds like something that’s not real, but it is. Like I said, Myles is not who you think he is. He’s the son of a mafia boss, and that’s his actual life. When he left you he found his real father and he joined that life. Beatrice, the boy you used to love has killed people. He was the person who killed my brother.”
