Broken

Chapter 1

My life hasn't been the best, I lived with just my mom all my life and her revolving door of boyfriends. Some boyfriends were okay and others were cruel especially to me. Most men don't want a woman that already has a child so sometimes they treat that child unfairly. I moved in with my boyfriend when I was 17 I couldn't handle the constant abuse that I would receive from both my mom and her boyfriend. My boyfriends name is Justin hes 2 years older than me, and I was so devoted to him. Shortly after I moved in with Justin I found out I was pregnant with our son Elijah. I was so excited when I found out, but he wasn't he got so angry and told me to abort him, I refused and he left the apartment for a couple days. When he came back he apologized and told me how excited he was. A year after I had my son I ended up getting pregnant again with our daughter Ellis. I was scared to have another child so soon but I still managed to do it. I thought my life couldn't get any better until Justin changed, it was like one day he was this happy amazing man that I loved then the next day he was just so angry all the time, constantly picking fights with me and even started hitting me after a while. I stayed with him because I thought maybe he'd change, I was to in love with him to leave. It's been five years since I've been living with Justin and 3 years since he started beating me and I have no friends except for my children. 

Its Monday and Justin left for work at 5am today. I love Mondays because they're the days that Justin typically works late meaning I have the whole day to clean the house and have everything prepared for him when he gets home, it also leaves me with some peace of mind that I don't have to constantly cower in fear. I got out of bed at 6am and went straight to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day. While brushing my teeth I stared at my reflection depressed about how I looked, I had a fresh bruise around my big icy blue eyes, my lips which are normally plump and pretty currently has a cut and are swollen from the beating I got last night. I put some make up on my face to hide my bruises and put my long dark brown hair up into a bun and put on some leggings and a baggy tye dye shirt. By the time I was done with getting ready for the day I went into the kitchen and made French toast and eggs for the kids I put everything on the table and went to get them up for the day. "Elijah, Ellis it's time to get up" I said to them while opening up their curtains, they share a room since we live in a two bedroom apartment. "Come on get up and brush your teeth, breakfast is ready and waiting for you on the table" Ellis was the first to get up her dark orange curly hair looked wild "good morning mommy" she said "good morning baby" I said back to her. Elijah finally woke up and jumped on me "GOOD MORNING MOMMY!" he is always so hyper doesn't matter what time of day it is. "Hey goof ball, good morning haha come on let's go brush your teeth and eat some breakfast" I told them while putting Elijah down. "Okay!" They both said at the same time.

It was 11am and I was just about to start on the kids lunch when there was a knock on my door. "Who could that be" I thought to myself. When I opened my door I was surprised to see my ex best friend Holly she was pretty so say the least she had long blonde hair and brown eyes she was tall and skinny unlike me being short and curvy. We stopped being friends about 3 years ago said she didn't want to waste her time being friends with someone who had two kids and no time for her. "What are you doing here?" I asked and she just looked at me with a slight glare. " I came here to tell you something" she said sounding annoyed "Justin and I have been seeing each other for the past 3 years and I'm here to tell you that you need to leave because he's mine" then she turned around and left with me looking extremely shocked and about to start crying. "Mommy who was at the door?" Elijah asked "it was nobody sweetie go back to playing with your sister your lunch will be done soon" he turned back to his room and I continued to make their lunch. As the kids ate I just thought about what Holly said to me and my heart was completely shattered everything I've done for him and put up with and this whole time he was cheating on me with my ex best friend. I decided then and there enough is enough. I went to my room and started packing some of my clothes and other necessities, then I went to the kids room and started packing up some of there clothes " mommy what are you doing?" Ellis asked me "we're gonna go on trip baby" I told her with tears in my eyes "where are we going? Is daddy coming to?" She asked and by this point elijah was in the room as well listening in on our conversation "no baby daddy isn't coming and I'm not sure where we're going yet it's going to be an adventure" I told them hoping they'd be a little excited. I grabbed all our bags and put them by the door. "I just need to grab one more thing and then we can go" and ran back into my room and went to the closet I grabbed the jar where I kept our savings it was a total of $1,300. I went back out grabbed our bags and packed them into my car and put the kids into their carseats and then we left not knowing exactly where I was going to go.
