The Howling Prophecy

Disappeared

Kari practically skipped through the school doors as she felt so giddy. Terra and Lindsey shortly found Kari in the hall going towards the lockers. Lindsey squealed and gave Kari a big squeeze. Lindsey gave Kari a knowing look and Terra giggled.

“I am so glad everything got worked out just the way it should be, that it got all worked out. I tried so hard to get a hold of you!” Lindsey let go of Kari with a big smile. “Trent was so devastated last night thinking you thought the worst of him. He paced all night mumbling to himself. I swear I thought he was going to break through the floor. He became more furious when dad refused to have her locked up, since it wasn’t a betrayal because he isn’t technically mated, his hands are tied.”

“Mated?” Kari questioned dumbfounded.

“Well, you know...belonging to someone officially, married of course.” Lindsey responded to Kari’s question quickly and led the way to her locker.

“Uh k? That is a weird way to put it, the things you say sometimes are just off the wall.” Kari pulls a couple books out of her locker while Lindsey and Terra exchange looks.

“Well weird is in everyone’s nature, besides Lindsey always tried to be fancy with her words. Must come from dating an older guy.” Terra teased and Lindsey rolled her eyes. The girls laughed and headed toward their first classes.

“Oh shoot, I forgot I needed both books today in class. I need to go back and grab my other one. I will meet you later and if you see Mike tell him to save my seat.” Kari waved bye to her friends and walked back toward her locker. Her locker was at the end of the hall. The hallway was becoming clearer as class was about to begin. Kari glanced up toward her locker and saw Mike. She smiled as she walked toward him. Suddenly, Mike went stiff and fell to the ground, Kari gasped and tried to run to him. She felt a large arm wrap around her neck and pull her backward. A moist cloth went over her mouth and she felt lightheaded. Kari tried to scream, but she grew weak as the darkness started surrounding her.

“Hey there chosen one, you think you have what belongs to me? Well,

you were wrong, girly! And I’m about to show you just how wrong you were. Derek let’s go!”

Kari can hardly hear the voice, but the pitch was aggravating. It could only belong to one person, Vicki. 

“Yes, my princess,” snapped a low gravelly voice.

Kari could feel her body being tossed over someone’s shoulder and then nothing. Her body was then tossed into a van like a leftover doll in a toy box. The van sped off leaving behind books flapping in the wind at the school entrance. The final bell had rung, and Kari was nowhere to be seen nor was Mike. The instructor found it odd for neither Mike nor Kari to show up to class, having seen both of them prior to the final bell. 

“Beta, sir...Kari and Mike did not report to class.” The instructor mind linked Alex.

“Sweetheart, grab Terra and check the halls quickly, I am sending some of the warriors to surround the perimeter. Mike and Kari did not report to class, have you seen them?” Lindsey gasped and grabbed Terra’s arm pulling her into the hallway.

“NO..MIKE” Terra screamed and ran to him in a flash with Lindsey close behind. He was breathing heavily and would not wake.

“Trent! We can’t find her! Mike is knocked out and breathing heavily. It had to have been wolfsbane. There is a dart next to his body, damn his terrible senses.”

“You have to track her Lindsey, I will stay with Mike.” Terra runs her fingers through his hair as she kisses his right temple.

“Can you smell her? Can you trace her steps anywhere? Panic could be felt from Trent’s words.

“I am so sorry this is my fault, if I hadn’t denied you our bond your transformation would not have caused such dull senses. I knew we should have made you finish high school at home until you fully healed!” Terra sobbed. 

“It is not your fault, he wanted to come here. He will be fine, and we will find her.” Lindsey took a deep breath trying to force herself to believe those words. Truth is she knew Kari was in severe danger and she could guess with who.

Kari couldn’t open her eyes as they felt very heavy. She also noticed she couldn’t move her hands or feet. They had to have been bound as the cold from the hard floor seeped through her clothes. She could hear voices echoing in the distance as she tried to force her eyes open.

“What the hell have you done?! You stupid girl!” A man could be heard shouting with gusto at someone.

“But Daddy, she is his mate, if we just get rid of her now-,” A high pitched whiny voice responded to the man.

“NO! What you did Vicki, was forcibly start the clock on our plans prematurely. We are not fully prepared, and you just could have cost us the kingdom and the war to get us there! You best hope he doesn’t find her here or we are all doomed.”

 The man must have finished giving his daughter a verbal ass whooping as a door slammed shut shortly after. Wonderful, Kari thought, Vicki and her father as if this day couldn’t get worse. Of course, anyone that says that out loud is always proven wrong, but does it count if I only think it? Who am I kidding? I have to get out of here! My feet and hands are really tied down tightly, I can barely move them. At least I can open my eyes now, a lot of good that does me since it is pitch dark in here. What could they possibly be talking about, him to find her? Clearly, I am her but who is he? I don’t even know if anyone even knows I am gone or let alone taken. Lindsey said that mate term earlier, so it has to have some meaning as well. Ugh, my body just aches!

“Whatever...we have her now so we might as well finish it. Derek darling, please clean up this mess I created, and I might let you give me a kiss.” Vicki spoke with such sugar and spice that a growl erupted from the darkness.

Kari heard snapping noises like a large chicken bone being broken followed by a howl. She began to pull at her bindings and kick as hard as she could to try to get loose. Whatever that was, it would not be good.

A pair of large yellow eyes erupted from the dark with long fangs and hot thick breath inches from Kari’s face. Kari froze, hoping it was like other animals that if you didn’t move it would just go away since running away at this point was not an option. She tried to hold her breath looking at the prominent features to come up with one word...werewolf. 

What do I do, that is not a normal wolf, it is huge and responding to Vicki? The bones snapping had to have been him shifting, he must have been the man that grabbed me from behind. Holy s**t it is just like the stories I have read. IT IS REAL...which still does me no good at this point.

Kari continues to frantically squirm against her bindings hearing what sounded like a chuckle from the very large being in front of her.

“Make it hurt baby,” Vicki flirtatiously egged on the beast.

Derek pulled Kari’s legs closer to him with a swipe of his front paw. He snarled in Kari’s face, reveling in her fear. Her front right paw slowly was forced down on her right leg.

Kari let out an excruciating scream in agony, “Stop please!”

A large rumble came from his chest in a mocking tone. Kari’s leg was definitely broken, and tears ran down her face as she couldn’t catch her breath from the sheer pain. Derek circled her like she was his prey. He then barreled into her with a smirk, sending her flying into the wall. The wind was knocked out of her as her left arm and head was now pounding with new pain sensations spreading throughout her body. The room was spinning as the pain became too much to bear. Her left arm was bent back at an awkward angle after she collapsed to the ground. Kari couldn’t move.

“You deserve this! He was supposed to pick me, he would have if you didn’t show up. I warned you and even tried to break you up. The stupid mate bond wouldn’t give! It shouldn’t be that strong with a human!” Vicki spat at Kari full of rage.

Kari tried to look at Vicki who was now standing over her, “you, you’re a... werewolf too?” Kari panted, fighting the fainting spell that was taking over.

“You know you really are dumb for a smart girl. But I suppose I can tell you since you won’t live much longer. Honey, the entire school, the whole town, we are all werewolves.” Vicki laughed, tossing her head back.

Did my parents know? They would have to have known since we lived here before. Wait… are they werewolves, Trent has to be one, and Lindsey? They all kept this from me?

Kari’s mind was swimming. She struggled with all the implications of what Vicki had said. Kari continues to cry in pain as she tries to wiggle away from both Derek and Vicki unsuccessfully. Derek was strutting toward her. He was ready to end the pain for her, and Kari at this point didn’t know what else to do but accept. Then a large and powerful roar that shook the ground she was laying on erupted. Kari could barely keep her eyes open between the pain and her head injury. She closed her eyes knowing that it was going to be over soon.

“s**t! He is here, hurry up you mutt!” Vicki ordered Derek with a poisonous snap.

Vicki’s heels are heard clicking away as a growl rumbles in Kari’s ear. Then a loud crash and the dripping hot breath vanished. She tried to open her eyes back up to see what was going on. There was growling and slamming sounds surrounding her. Something being torn and the wet thud of a large object hitting the far wall. Then silence.

A warm, comforting hand gently brushed her cheek.

“Kari...Kari! Open your eyes baby!” Trent frantically called at her.

“Vicki is gone, but I smell her father was here too...Geeze, did you have to be so brutal with the kill? How are we going to clean this up in a hurry?” Mike questioned with an undertone of disgust.

“Her pulse is faint, she's dying! I have to bite her, the pack doctor will know what to do.” Trent steadied his breath after coming to his decision of what to do.

“What are you going to tell her? No human could survive such an attack!” Alex forcibly reminded Trent.

“I don’t care! I will not lose her after just getting her back. If I don’t, she will die. Get rid of the body. I’m so sorry Kari, this will hurt for a moment,” he whispered the last part gently into her ear.

Kari suddenly felt something biting between her neck and shoulder on the right side. The pain was unbearable for what felt like an eternity and then quickly transformed into extreme lubricating pleasure. She let out a moan and then silence.
