Kari's daydream of running to Trent and kissing him was abruptly interrupted. Kari looked up to the perfect blond-haired person standing before her. She had a perfect porcelain face with a Barbie doll figure. She wore a mini skirt that was practically nonexistent and a tank top that hugged her body. She had long loose curls in her hair and high-heeled shoes with sparkling toes. Kari could feel her heart sink into her stomach as she knew she would not be able to compete with that. Kari gave a weak smile to the blonde and tried to brush away her feelings she already could feel toward Trent.
Let me guess, this is the perfect popular girl that belongs to the popular Trent I bet. How stupid am I to think he was being genuine with me? I don't understand why I have these feelings towards him already, I have never felt this way before. I am so confused and definitely need to leave before this lover's quarrel really gets going.
"Trent, are you listening to me? I thought you would finally stop this ridiculous search this year. You know I am the one who is meant to be. Now, walk with me to my locker and then pick me up after school. I will tell father you made the right choice," Vicki demanded at Trent while twirling her wavy hair between her fingers. She gave a disgusted glance at Kari and looked back at Trent waiting for him to respond.
Vicki comes from a prominent family like Trent's family. Kari does not have to be a genius to know she should sneak out of this discussion quickly. Kari starts to walk around Vicki with her backpack over her shoulder. Before she can take the first step, she hears the sweet melodic voice that made her heart flutter moments before. Kari turned back around curious to hear what he would say.
"Vicki, I have told you before I have zero interest in you. But you are right about one thing. I will stop my search as it is no longer necessary to look," Trent responds with a smirk and a wink to Kari.
Kari was in shock to hear the news of the assumed couple. She looked at Trent with a curious brow and a surprised face at the wink. Kari looks at Vicki's face and sees anger boiling inside of her. She decides regardless of what Trent had meant; it is still best to leave this situation. As she walked away toward her first class, she could hear Vicki almost screaming at Trent and tried to tune her unbearable voice out. Kari was able to find her first class with ease and slid into a desk. She takes a deep breath and lets it out.
Finally, a school that does not have a perfect couple. I can’t believe it and it was like a breath of fresh air to hear and witness the popular girl getting not only turned down, but almost shook with some sense. This day might not be terrible.
A couple hours have passed for Kari with seemingly endless classes leading to the inevitable lunch time. One thing about being the new girl is lunch always sucked. The battle of who do you sit with to make your high school stand of where you belong. Kari decided she no longer cared about fitting in since she was going to be graduating soon anyways. She only dreamed of her future and the new life she would have after finally escaping high school.
Okay, here it goes. I am just going to grab my food and sit in the back. The tables all look open and ignored toward the back.
Kari grabbed her lunch bag from her backpack and worked toward a back table without drawing too much attention. As she unloaded her lunch a chair suddenly was pulled away from the table next to her.
"Since you are new here, I know this seat isn't taken," Trent said while sitting down next to Kari with a wink when she met his eyes.
Kari's body became heated with a strange desire. Trent set out a sandwich and placed a blue Powerade on the table with a smile. He looked so focused on her, like they were the only ones in the room within a thousand miles. Kari really started to enjoy the attention from him, but she couldn't let him know that on the first day.
Why does he have to keep bothering me all the time? Is this because I am the last girl he hasn't dated in this school or what? Well, I am not letting him know that I am attracted if that is the case. The least he could do is leave me alone when I sit by myself on purpose.
"No, that seat isn't taken, and you are welcome to take it with you to another table," Kari smiled sarcastically looking at his nose to avoid gazing in his eyes.
"But this is where I want to sit," Trent smiled at Kari, making her body heat up more and blush. Her body furthered the embarrassment and loss of control by causing her panties to dampen.
"Why can't you leave me alone? I just want to eat in peace and not be made a spectacle in front of everyone!"
Kari was becoming upset, but not with him, with herself. She is not a rude person, but her mind and body were going crazy. Kari didn't know how to act around him, it was like her body was betraying her. Her mind was full of questions of confusion as to what his hold had on her, but her body only wanted one thing...him.
"I'm just being friendly to a beautiful new face," Trent said in a smooth voice with a smirk at Kari as she started to repack her lunch.
Kari gets up and makes her way outside to the promenade for fresh air to clear her mind. Trent tried to call after her.
"Come on Kari, I just wanted to say hi. I'm sorry, please come back."
Trent's voice was full of frustration. He blew it again, he thought. How was he going to get close to her? She was just as beautiful as he remembered and even back then he knew she was to be his.
Well, Trent thought to himself, who would have thought I would blow that up so fast. Clearly, the head on approach is not working. I knew getting to know her would be tough but being human might make this tougher. Maybe she needs a friend to ease her more into things and give her the right support.
