Inside The House. Chapter 2

"I've got you something, Sam" Cirriane's mother Symphony hummed. "Ooh, what is it?" Sam asked begging to know. "Well, you're just going to have to wait until after dinner." Symphony giggled. She knows how much waiting bothers Sam. Cirriane got comfy on the couch. Sam's dog Boo came in and laid on Cirriane. Cirriane loved animals. There weren't any in the mountains except for the ones they ate. Boo was so cute and Cirriane had nearly forgotten about her until she jumped in her lap. "Your just a cutie pie," Cirriane said in baby talk to Boo. Cirriane just sat there and pet Boo. She was listening in to her mother's and Sam's conversation. Sometimes their gossip got interesting. Apparently, Sam dumped her douchebag of a husband and was taking care of the kids on her own now. Cirriane did feel bad that now Sam had to take care of the kids alone, but she was glad that guy was gone. Not taking care of his kids anymore is one really good example of the kind of guy he was. Dinner was almost done. Boo got up and went to the back door, so Cirriane got up and went outside with her. Boo needed to pee and Cirriane got more time to look at the sky. It was beautiful, swirling white atop a blue canvas. It was such a vibrant blue. One can only describe it as the ocean's color. Cirriane longed for the ocean. She hasn't been since she was a little girl. As for the sky, she's used to seeing it every day to and from school, but that will soon be over. Who knows when she will see the sky again after graduation? "Come in, it's ready!!" Symphony and Sam said this to Cirriane in sync. Cirriance came in, the floor was red-tinted wood. The table had light wooden legs and a blue and white table cloth. It was mostly white with pretty blue lace at the edges. She sat with her mother and Sam at the table. "Where are the kids?" Cirrianne asked her mom and Sam. "They're at the babysitters. I had to get one because of everything going on. Plus, I needed one night with my best friend without three little responsibilities! It's my birthday, right!" Sam replied. She had been around her kids forever. She smiled. She finally had a free night. "Okay, well, happy birthday!" Cirrianne said to Sam. They ate their food and Sam and Cirrianne's mother symphony talked about their younger days the entire day. Cirrianne finished eating first. She plopped herself on the couch and waited for her mom to finish. Cirrianne just wanted to go home. She had school tomorrow and here she was not studying and not sleeping. Cirrianne is a straight-A student. It's unlike her to "just have fun". "Maybe I'm uptight," Cirrianne thought. "Surely I'm not, I'm just interested in my studies," Cirrianne assured herself. Cirrianne was petting the dog. Watching her mother laugh. She looked so happy. Cirriane wondered if she'd ever find that happiness. She sure hoped so. Life really wasn't all that great. Her friend is dating the guy that she is madly in love with and they're all graduating next year. What would she do with her life? Oh, how she longed to spend it with Anthony. He was a beautiful sculpture of a man. Strong, blue-eyed, brown hair. The slightest hint of a beard growing in. If only he wasn't so cute. She wouldn't have to study as much because his amazing good looks would be less distracting. "All right, I think Cirrianne and I are going to head home. I hope you had the best birthday ever girlfriend!" Symphony spoke to Sam. Hearing this, Cirrianne stood up. She hugged Sam and said, "Happy Birthday again!" Then she stood by the door while Symphony and Sam whispered little secrets and a final goodbye. "I wonder if I'll ever have a best friend like that." Cirrianne thought as she hopped in the passenger seat of her mom's car. "On the road again!" Symphony stated in excitement as she pulled out of the driveway. "We'll be home soon. I'm sorry we talked so long but I figured you'd enjoy being outside the mountains for a day." Symphony said to her daughter knowing she was worried about her studies. "I know why you brought me, I had a good time. Thank you, mama." Cirrianne thanked her mother. They drove down the windy road and Cirrianne looked at all of the lights in the distance. They were never-ending. The city just kept growing and growing. When she was a little girl the mountain society was nearly the same size as the city. But now. The city was larger than the mountain society 25 to 1. "Parasites. We're all parasites." She thought. She knew she and her family were no better than any other humans. She just couldn't believe humans had spread so much. Babies. They're so cute. But, they're so many. Humans aren't good for the earth. That much was a fact. Cirrianne dozed off to sleep. Her mother decided to let her sleep a little. Cirrianne had a long day and her mom knew that. They were nearing the mountains and Symphony decided to wake up Cirrianne before the sounds of the huge doors opening did. "Cirrianne, we're almost home. Please wake-up. I don't want the door to startle you." Symphony spoke gently and slightly nudged her daughter. "uhh," Cirrianne groaned. "Get up dear we're almost at the doors," Symphony spoke harshly this time. "I'm up, I'm up. Jeez." Cirrianne woke up with an attitude. As most teenagers do. Shortly after Cirrianne woke up they had arrived at the big doors. The doors were hoisted open and Symphony drove through. She drove all the way to the back of the mountain and parked outside their family home. "Do you think dad and Link are home?" Cirrianne asked. "They should be just finishing up dinner, " Symphony replied as they got out of the car.
