BLOODLINES AND BETRAYALS

Mira sat on the edge of her bed, hands still faintly warm from the light she’d unleashed. Her thoughts raced, louder than the storm outside. Moonfire. She wasn’t a wolf—but somehow, she had tapped into a power only wolves possessed. Not just any wolves—royal bloodlines. Then what am I? She barely slept. By morning, the whispers in the corridors were louder than ever. Someone had seen the battle in the woods. Word had spread: a servant fought off rogues—and lived. Now, everyone was watching Mira. Especially Lyra. --- In the training yard, Lyra circled Kael, both of them sparring in silence. "You knew about her," Lyra snapped, striking with a wooden blade. Kael blocked. "I suspected." "You should’ve told me." Kael smiled, dangerous and calm. "And have you kill her before we understood what she was?" Lyra’s eyes narrowed. "She’s a threat to our name." Kael’s next strike came too fast for her to dodge. "Or she’s our only chance to survive the curse." Lyra paused, panting. "You still believe in that old prophecy?" "I have to," Kael murmured. "Because it’s unfolding, whether we like it or not." --- Later that day, in the library, Mira stood before a hidden shelf Dalia had shown her—a place that held the oldest texts of Moonridge. She pulled out a cracked, leather book with silver detailing and a family crest that looked hauntingly familiar. She turned to a faded page: > “A child born of the hidden bloodline shall awaken the bond, wield the fire, and test the fate of wolves.” Her breath hitched. The symbol at the bottom of the page… matched the pendant she wore around her neck since childhood. A pendant she'd always assumed was worthless. Could I be… one of them? Footsteps broke her thoughts. Kael. He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, eyes unreadable. "You shouldn’t be here," he said. "Then stop me," Mira replied, voice surprisingly steady. Kael studied her. “You really have no idea who your parents were… do you?” Mira frowned. "I was raised in the servant quarters. My mother died when I was a baby. I never knew—" "She wasn’t a servant," Kael interrupted softly. "She was banished. Because of who she loved." Mira’s heart stopped. "Who did she love?" Kael stepped closer. "The heir of the Blackfang Pack." Mira’s vision swam. That pack had vanished decades ago—destroyed in a war no one spoke of. Elias appeared in the doorway, silent, eyes glowing faintly. "It’s true," he said. "You’re not just bonded to me, Mira. You’re the last living blood of the lost Alpha line." ---
