Charlie stood there in stunned silence. He had never imagined the truth. The prestigious job he'd believed was guaranteed, the opportunity that would have changed his family's future had disappeared the moment he traded one woman for another. His parents were furious. His mother shouted at him. "Divorce Shirley immediately! Go apologize to Mary and beg her to forgive you!" His father nodded furiously. "That gold-digging little homewrecker isn't worth ruining your future over!" After only a few days of living together, Shirley was already exhausted. She cooked every meal for the family. She cleaned the apartment. She waited on Charlie's parents hand and foot. She had never imagined that after everything she'd sacrificed, they would turn around and treat her like she was disposable
