Twin's

654 Words
Walking up to the back door I had to rub my belly, I already felt like I was going to puke and the twins were going crazy from my anxiety. Typing in my code to the restaurant's back door, I catch it as it unlocks. Turning to scan the parking lot one more time, I reassure myself when I don't see Jay’s car. Letting out a deep breath, I turned back to the darkened hallway and made my way past the bathrooms and office, the walls covered in the gorgeous Tuscan vineyards and sunset pictures Jason had taken on his trip to visit his extended family. Heading the last few steps towards the kitchen, stopping to take in a few deep breaths, I was terrified he would just kick me out and then I would have no one. Rubbing my stomach one more time feeling tiny nudges, I reminded myself why I was there despite the lack of contact. He was my best friend and I know he will be there when I need him. Ethan is always in the kitchen now going over his pre-check list for the night. It's been months since I have heard from him. We have never gone this long without talking, he doesn't even know I moved. I guess Jay told him about what I did. I can only hope that he will help me and his nephews or nieces out despite obviously hating me. Peaking around the corner, I see his familiar dirty blonde hair, longer than I have ever seen it, looking disheveled and messy as he slowly moves around the kitchen. His clothes even looked unkempt, opposite to his usual perfectly posh look, even with his chef's coat on, he always prided himself on looking professional in public. When he turned slightly, I could see the dark bags under his dull blue eyes. What has happened to my brother? A pang of guilt hit me. I should have checked in sooner, tried to explain or something. Even if he didn't want to text me back, I should have made sure he was okay. Slipping behind an island to hide my bump, I cleared my throat to get his attention. “Jerry, I'm running behind, just start your prep. I'm going back out tonight so you will be running the restaurant.” He’s letting someone else run the restaurant to go out? What is going on? “I’m sorry if you're busy, then I can come back.” I barely finished what I was saying before the plates he was holding crashed to the floor, making me jump. White porcelain covering the ground, stunned at the mess, I didn't even see Ethan coming for me antell he had his arms wrapped tightly around me. Well, as tight as he could with a beach ball in between us. Pulling back and looking into my eyes, I could see the tears flowing down his cheeks as he held tightly on to my arms, studying my face. “Where have you been? We have been looking everywhere for you?” he said in a raspy voice. “What?” I whispered, too shocked to say anything. “Where have you been? I have been texting and calling you for months. Lizzy hasn't heard from you, Jason and I have been going out every night looking for any sign of you. Your land-lord said you moved out, not a call or a text just gone. What the hell is going on and now you show up here pregnant out of nowhere.” He's cut off by another voice behind us, his bruising grip finally losing on my arms, not that I would let him know. I could see his pain and worry all over his face. Looking behind him while trying to subtly rub my arms, I paled at the one man I didn't want to see ever again. "You're pregnant?’
