The Party

“Hey, I have something I wanted to talk to you about.” I set the containers down on his counter. The nerves that lit in my belly made my hands shake slightly. He never used that serious work tone with me. Turning around, I looked up at him, his six–two height hovering over me but he wasn’t looking at me he was clutching the white marble countertop behind him while looking down at his shoes. His dark blue button up contrasted his lightly tan skin perfectly with his almost black hair falling slightly into his face. I wanted to reach out and move it away from his eyes, but I didn’t want him to see the slight tremble I was trying to cover up so instead, I adopted the same posture as him leaning my back against the countertop. The only difference, I was staring at him waiting for him to continue. “I know she is one of your best friends, but I was really hoping you're ok if I asked her out. We have been talking for quite a while and she seems so sweet and kind. She really listens when I talk to her, and I think we might make a great couple.” He keeps rambling on so fast that I can't even ask him who he is talking about. The only person I know that fits that description is Lizzy, and he knows how my brother feels about her so he couldn’t be talking about her. “If you don’t want me to ask her out, I won't but I really do like her and I see why you two are best friends. Your so much alike so sweet and kind.” He was finally looking at me biting his lower lip to shut himself up I assume. The pink on his cheeks told me just how embarrassed he was even asking and that he was only asking because he was under the impression that me and this girl were close friends. “Just one question.” He nods, still biting his lip adorably looking up at me from under his hair. “Who are you talking about?” “Um Jessica, how many other friends not including Lizzy do you have that fit that description?” Now he was looking at me with a puzzled expression, his golden brown eyes questioning me. “I’m sorry Jay, I don't really know her that well. She only started at the office a few months ago.” Why would he think we were best friends? I hardly talk to her. She invited herself to lunch with me one day where she met Jason and Ethan which must be how they started speaking but since that day i had hardly spoken to her. Other than for the constant favors she asks me and everyone else to do for her. “Oh, she said you two were best friends. Well if you're not that close you don't mind me asking her out tomorrow right?” I shook my head no to him. Turning to open the containers so he couldn't see the look on my face. “Those smell amazing El, when are you going to let me buy you a bakery so I can have these all the time.” “Your not buying me a bakery Jay. I won't take your money. I have started selling baked goods out of my house and I have half of what I need for the store front and supplies.” “That's great El.” He swept me up in a hug and spun me around, he didn't even care that i wasn't exactly a stick. Well I was quite the opposite. I had curves, a lot of curves. I loved my baking as much as everyone else and sitting in an office all day then baking all evening didn't leave much time for going to the gym. “ I am so happy for you, I know how long you have been working to save up enough money for a bakery of your own but i wish you would let me help you.” raising a hand to stop my protest he continues promptly cutting me off. “I won't force you to let me help you, well… not yet.” He said as he started to run down the hall back to the foyer. “Jason Ellington, You wouldn't dare.” Taking off after him I only make it about half way before the doorbell rings and the staff that I had not previously noticed open the door greeting the women in question along with about twenty others. The party is in full swing before I know it, soft music playing in the background as people laugh and joke. Jason throws these random party’s from time to time. He says it gives life to the quiet house and an tell he has kids one day the stuffy place needs the joy to keep it from falling into a haunted old mansion or him from turning into the old creepy guy on the hill. Jessica has been glued to Jason's arm all night smiling and greeting everyone like she is married to Jason. I have been pretty much hiding in the kitchen the whole time, I can see everything but with Jasons leach attached and Ethan not here I prefer to speak to the cook Gloria. My mom and her were best friends growing up. The two of them are the ones who taught me to bake and Ethan to cook. When I ran through all of their knowledge I ate up every baking cookbook, show, and recipe I could get my hands on. “Are you ever going to tell that boy how you feel about him?” “Tell who?” Turning away from where I was watching Jason and looked down at my gold heels. There was no point however she had caught me staring. “You know who, Ellie. You have been in love with that boy for as long as i can remember.” I could feel her eyes on me as she poured more champagne and beer. Watching Jessica claw at Jason I had already had more than I normally drink and could feel the heat creeping up my cheeks. I didn't answer her though just readjusting some of my macarons on a platter, she knew I wouldn't answer because I didn't like to lie and this wasn't the first time she had asked me this question. “Darling, could you take this to the man you're not head over heels in love with for me? I need to set out more food. This bunch is ravenous tonight.” Going over to jason right now is the last thing i want to do especially in my state, but if i don't she i would just be admitting she was right. Drunk or not my stubborn ass was not admitting to anything. Taking a deep breath as discreetly as I can, steadying myself against the counter, and taking the champagne before walking over to Jason, Jessica and two men in dress shirts and slacks standing in the middle of what is usually the living room talking and laughing. Both men are very handsome, tall muscled with stunning green eyes but they pale next to Jason’s effortless perfection. “Hey Jay, Gloria sent me with a drink for you.” Jessica narrowed her eyes on me, her smile tensing as she leaned farther into Jason's arm. I could tell Jason wasn't as drunk as me but he was definitely heading that way. I don't remember the last time I saw him drink this much. I wonder what is going on. “Ellie, where have you been hiding? This is the Wrecklerbee brothers they are associates of mine and Eathan’s.” Turning back to the men he points to me and explains that I am Ethans twin sister. “She is the one that baked the treats for the party. She is incredible.” He looked at me with pride shining in his eyes. Jessica had lost her smile at this point looking at me with a contemplative look on her face. We talked for a while longer, the whole time,Jessica kept bringing me and Jason drinks making sure they never even got low. By the time the party ended I was so drunk the room was spinning out of control. Stumbling a few feet over to Jason. Who was alone for the first time all night, I wrapped my arms around him and tried not to fall over. Was he swaying too or was I doing that? It was like we were dancing. That thought made me giggle to myself.”Jay, I think I might need to stay the night. I can't remember where I live.” we both giggled uncontrollably at that. When he stops laughing he nods his head towards the stairs as we start to head that way I trip over my heels falling flat on my ass. Groaning in pain, Inotice my teal dress with gold accents sparkles and swirls under the lights. When did i get a magic dress? Jason's face swam in front of me. It took all of my focus to concentrate on what he was saying. Before I could make his gibberish make sense however he had me up in his arms marching up the stairs. “Ellie what would i do without you to bring amusement to my every day.” His words hit home. I saw Jessica tonight. She wouldn't let me be a part of his life like this. Soon I just knew things would change. We swayed as he walked up the stairs. Not because of my weight because his arms where firm and steady around me but because he was just as drunk as me. I couldn't hold it back anymore the tears started flowing down my cheeks. When we got to the spare room he knelt down in front of me and held my face on both sides.``Ellie baby whats wrong? Please don't cry sweetie, tell me what's going on and I will make it better.” I kissed him and I didn't say anything. I just knelt down and devoured his mouth with mine leaning back pulling him on top of me.
