Sophia The boat ride had been too quick, really. I wasn’t ready for it to end, and yet the moment my feet touched the soft sand of the island, I forgot everything else. The warm breeze carried the scent of saltwater and something sweet, almost like fresh fruit. My heart skipped, and before I could stop myself, I took off running. It was impossible not to. The place was magic. I darted across the shore, my shoes sinking into the pale sand before I kicked them off entirely. The water lapped at my ankles, cool and clear, and I laughed, an unrestrained, bubbling sound that felt strange in my own ears. I wasn’t usually like this.
