Caleb I stood frozen in place, my hands clenched into fists by my sides, my breath lodged somewhere between my chest and throat. The car had driven off, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t even breathe. Sophia. That was Sophia in the car. Not just any car, but Luna's car. Erick’s Luna. And she hadn’t looked like the timid assistant I remembered. No, the woman I’d just seen wore a crown. A real one. Her face was calm, graceful, and powerful like someone who had found herself and no longer needed validation from anyone. A Queen. My Sophia was the Queen? No. That couldn’t be right. Wasn’t she just Erick’s assistant? That’s what we all thought. The soft-spoken woman who wore modest dresses, who kept her head low in meetings, who rarely said more than necessary.
