[ CHAPTER NINE
Resolve]
[SIENNA'S POINT OF VIEW]
THE LEAVES KEPT ON RUSTLING AS IF DISTURBED BY EVERYTHING THAT WAS HAPPENING. The two of us was unperturbed by the noise, by the confrontation, the lies and continued to look at each other.
"Cedrick. What are you doing?!" I yelled as I burst into tears.
Why did he do that earlier? Why did that happened to Viktor? Was it my fault? Should I have not gone to the party? Why did I run away? What right did I have to do so?
Numerous questions raced through my mind over and over again. It revealed my insecurities. Cutting open my scars, and bared my vulnerable heart.
"Mira...Sienna..."
"What are you doing messing things up?!" I screamed.
I was confused. I was hurt. I was scared. I was vulnerable. I was angry. I felt broken. All this, I blamed Cedrick for it. I insulted him, cursed at him, hurt him, and screamed at him.
He managed to calm me somewhat by forcefully grabbing both of my cheeks and making me look up.
"Sienna...I'm here for you. We may have fought but I was just hurt and angry. I don't like you with other guys Mira...I want you to be mine alone...I won't let anyone touch you. "He mentioned the last part with faint darkness that I flinched.
He firmly grabbed my wrists to make me really look only to him and not run off. I escaped out of his grasp and glared at him with hate. His hold was so strong that my skin reddened and his hands lefts marks on my skin.
"I love you? Or is it a mere I like you? If you really did have those feelings for me why didn't you comfort me knowing that Iris' betrayal hurt me? Why did you decide to go away and hurt me too!? Why did you have to be such a jerk!?? Can't you see the way you're acting Cedrick!? You're being childish and selfish!" I raised my hands up and kicked his leg.
He listened to my speech without a rebuttal. The raw guilt in his eyes was enough to be an answer for all my questions.
"I liked you Cedrick and just a little more we would've probably felt the same but that's it. I only play with fire. No more no less." I finished with a tearful look.
As I left him frozen and speechless there, I looked back and said.
"And if you really love me then where were you when I needed you the most?" I ended it with that.
I remember when Cede asked me if I would play with fire. I did and I got burnt. I've learnt my lesson.
If I continued any longer, I doubt I'd be able to control the cracking of my voice. My tears fell like gushing water and I ran away from him. I didn't want to be with someone who acted like a hypocrite.
Love? I think what you feel Hughes maybe attachment or the urge of possession.
I returned to where Viktor was and called out to him.
"Sienna no!" Joelyn warned but I ignored her.
I ran towards Viktor and embraced him.
I don't care if this thing kills me but please leave Viktor's body. I strongly prayed to God.
I wanted to close my eyes. I didn't want to see the part where his claws stab deep in my flesh but I had to open my eyes. I had to show him, I had to show Viktor that I believed that he was still there.
His claws rose up high and he let out a demonic laugh as he brought it down.
An inch. Just an inch away from me was those claws of death. An inch away from my eyes.
Viktor lost the red in his eyes and his beautiful dark brown eyes returned. He smiled at me weakly before fainting.
I caught him as my knees lose their strength. I look at his peaceful face and brush the hair covering his face.
Joelyn and Cole ran up to me in concern. Now that the danger was gone and I was safe, Viktor was also safe, everything turned black.
***
I slowly opened my eyes and saw mother seated on my desk chair, flipping some pages.
My eyes finally adapted from the light from the curtains and I saw mother approaching me.
"Are you awake?"
My vision cleared and I saw Joelyn's worried face.
I sat up in panic and groaned as I felt a slight ache from the back of my head.
"Slow down. Here." She helped me be more comfortable and gave me some delicious chocolate drink.
I accepted it with a grateful smile and drank it all with three gulps. She chuckled as she took the glass from me.
"Breakfast is downstairs." She exited the room.
I went down the stairs at my own pace.
I saw grandma, Cole and Joelyn happily seated and waiting for me. Grandma had her indoor clothes and the two wore their all black armour of some sort with a black cloak and the edge cut into long slits.
Grandma stood up and hugged me with tears on her face. She squeezed me a few more times and ushered me to take seat.
We started eating when I stopped.
"Um...Mr Cole and Ms Joelyn thank you for last night." I said in a low voice.
Cole answered with a hum and Joelyn smiled at me.
"Sienna do you remember your mother gifting you that pendant?" Grandma asked.
I nodded with a raised eyebrow.
"The pendant was a seal so it won't find you."
"Find me?"
"Since your mother, Evelyn was a maiden, a demon had his eyes on her and now that you look the same as your beautiful mother...I'm afraid-"
Even if she didn't finish it, the message was clear. Goosebumps rose from my shoulders and neck as I thought of the possibilities.
"But don't worry. This two are trained to take on cases like this." She reassured me.
"We've been chasing that thing for 5 years." Cole added as he drank some juice.
"Actually Sienna, your pendant was what I used to weaken the demon. It contained purifying properties." She admitted.
"What?" I creased my eyebrows.
That pendant may have been broken or something but mother gave that to me and to think she actually used it like it was a replaceable item! I wanted to be grateful but what she did made my mood go down in the dumps.
I stood up and excused myself. I needed to cool my head.
"Sienna-"
"I'll go to her, grandma." Joelyn said.
Once I heard her say that I quickened my pace. She caught up to me when I was in front of the library, located at the farthest corner of the mansion.
"Sienna. Please let's talk-"
I faced her with a glare. She is just like Cedrick isn't she? Acting like they totally know me?
"Please I appreciate the help but your presence is uninvited. Why did you help me that night? What are you after?" I gave her no time to breath with my questions.
She looked like she wanted to answer but shut her mouth.
"Come here for a bit." She said and grabbed my hand.
I tried to struggle out of her hold but she had a firm hold on me. As expected of a warrior.
She opened a room after muttering some chants that only she understood and entered.
My complaints died down once I saw the person inside the room. He was sleeping in the bed with a gentle face but constricting him was a thick rope with various talismans and charms placed on it. They treated him like a monster and it felt like a pinch to my heart.
I rushed up to his side and caressed his hair away from his face.
"I'm sorry but we have to do everything we had to defeat this demon." She answered with a determined tone.
"Viktor is not a demon!" I defended him with an angry face.
"He's not but he was possessed and god knows if the demon left or just hid inside his body." She destroyed my hopes and shattered my pitiful defenses.
I could only sob as I look at Viktor's face. This was my fault. Losing some pendant is trivial.
I continued to drown in my sadness and tears as I held his hands and hoped for him to wake up.
