The Hunt Begins

“I can’t believe her.” I muttered under my breath as I filled out my leave of work paperwork. “Hey Zelda what are you doing?” A short Filipino girl walked up to me. She had bouncing curls and a bright smile. “Hey Nel, I am filling out the paperwork for leave.” “Where are you leaving to?” “I have some family business I have to do.” I gave a soft smile to her. I didn’t want my real feelings to show up. “Are you going to come back?” Her smile now replaced with a curious look on her face. “I hope so.” I laughed. Nel relaxed and gave a giggle before running off. I didn’t dare give into a sigh of relief, the wall had ears even though it was a mortal building, mortals were amazing at hearing things. As I walked out of the building, my thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions. I was angry and hurt, but more than anything, I was determined to find my brother. My mother had never asked for my help before, but it seemed as though I was her only option. I had no idea where to start my search, so I decided to visit the one place where I had a strong connection to my brother. I went to the local park where we used to play as children when we would run away from being the prince and princess we were. I sat on the swings, feeling the wind rushing past me as I pushed them higher and higher, my thoughts drifting to memories of my brother. Jesper was the only person I ever truly cared about. We weren't close in age, and to say we grew up together is definitely stretching it. We were siblings, but more than that, we were partners in crime, always seeking adventure and making trouble. Jesper, however, never got in trouble. It was always me, who supposedly set him to stray. After a while, mother just separated us. “What are you doing in an area meant for children?” The man from the other day glared down at me. “You!” she pointed at him, yelling louder than I meant. He narrowed his eyes more, as if he didn’t know what to make of me. “You’re loud.” “You knocked into me at the doctors.” I quickly stood up and stared at him in the eyes. This didn’t work out as well as I wanted since he was a foot taller than me. He scoffed, giving a devilish smirk. “I think you will find that you knocked into me.” He looked me over like a wolf looking at a rabbit. “Looking at your phone.” “You are the one who knocked into me.” I insisted, I know I was looking at my phone but it felt more deliberate than me just distracted. He gave a low chuckle. “No.” he simply said. I blinked a few times at him in dismay. “Get out of the park before a cop get called on you for being in an area for kids.” He turned and started to leave. “It’s nighttime.” I looked up at the sunset. “No one is going to be out here except druggies and those who are up to no good.” I looked him up and down. He looked at me from over his shoulder. “Are you saying you’re up to no good?” He smirked. “No.” I quickly snapped. “You must be wondering around. At least I am trying to find someone!” His smirk disappeared, turning around, he looked at me with narrowed eyes. “Missing someone a vampire can’t find?” I swallowed hard before answering. “Yes.” “How rare.” He sounded amused but looked nothing like it. “Yeah,” I hugged myself. “I have to find my brother.” I knew I shouldn’t be giving out information but I was starting to not know what to do. “Is he a vampire?” “Of course.” I snapped. “Then smell for him. Have your precious queen look for him.” “No one can find him.” I mused. “Interesting.” He nodded. “Do you know any good Trackers?” “The last one I knew…” he trailed off. “No.” he finally said. “Damn it.” I bit my bottom lip. “How about this, I help you.” “What’s the catch?” I quickly ask. He shrugged. “I am curious as to why a vampire princess isn’t able to find the vampire prince.” “You know who I am?” “You’re the forgotten princess of the Vampire Empire.” He said plainly. “f**k off!” I screamed. I knew what I was, but I didn’t want to hear it out loud. “I don’t need your help!” “Calm down princess.” He went and grabbed my wrist. “f**k you.” I tried to pull my wrist, which normally was easy, no matter who it was. However when I tried, it was like in a vise. “Who the hell are you?” I stared down at his hand on my wrist. He smirked like a villain. “Call me Flynn.”
