Diane's POV I scoffed internally. I had underestimated him. Beta Tony might not be an Alpha, but he wasn’t as easily swayed as I had assumed. My lips parted as though to defend myself, but I hesitated. If I got too defensive, it would only make him more suspicious. Instead, I let my shoulders slump and bit my lower lip, as if his words had wounded me. A good liar knew when to fight and when to retreat. Right now, I needed to look like a grieving, helpless woman, not someone caught in a deception. “Believe whatever you want,” I mumbled, turning my face away. Silence stretched between us. I could feel his gaze on me, assessing my words. My fingers curled around the fabric of my dress, willing him to walk away. I needed to be alone—to think, to plan my story well in case of the next time
