I winced from the pain in my side. To be honest, everything hurt, but that pain was the worst. I had only made it a couple of steps from the bed before I wanted to lay back down.
“Just a couple more steps and I’ll help you back to bed.” Reselda, one of the nurses, was coaxing me to keep walking. I inhaled deeply and exhaled, trying again. I finally made it to the door. True to her word, she helped me back to bed.
“It’s going to hurt for a couple of weeks or so, but you’re healing. I’ll go get your lunch and pain pills.” Reselda pulled the covers over my bottom half as I positioned myself more comfortably. She left to get my lunch. I was just about to settle and pick up my book when there was a knock.
“Come in!” I called out, assuming it was one of the nurses.
