Chapter 2

1137 Words
Agatha's POV When I woke up, I was on the bed with the stranger of last night. I tossed to the side and stared at his face. He was perfect. But now that the sun was up I knew that I had to leave. I picked up my clothes and got dressed up, the heaviness inside of me feeling much better and lighter. But there was still this guilt I felt for using the perfect stranger to get over my ex-husband. ‘It didn't matter anyway. He also had his share of enjoyment so it's all good.’ I convinced myself. I gave him one last look before leaving the bar. I got to my car which I parked outside the bar last night and got in. When I checked my reflection on the mirror, I looked flushed. I had drunk way too much last night and I was not sure if I was okay to drive— When I tested it, I was fine, I just had to focus on driving and not puking. I stopped over at my house/Leo's house and waited for the gate to open but I received no response. Frustrated, I stepped out and knocked over at the gate. “Open up the gate! It's me!” I yelled at the same time that I knocked. When the door finally opened, I saw the maid look at me with unsure eyes. “Ma'am —” “—What?” I snapped impatiently at her. “I'm sorry, the master told me to not open the gate for you.” I hissed at that. “Rubbish!” I said. This was both of our house. He did not have the liberty to keep me outside. “The master asked me to give you this,” As I was toiling in my mind, the maid looked extremely uncomfortable. She dipped her hands in her pocket and brought out a white envelope. Written on the tip of the envelope was ‘To Agatha.’ I tore open the envelope and saw a folded letter and a written cheque. To Agatha, If you are reading this letter, I've already married Lucia. Although we should be at a booked hotel for our honeymoon, I would like for you to vacate this house as soon as possible to avoid us inconveniencing each other. I've attached some money to pay for all the household items you used in this place. Please, let's not see each other again. The next paper was a hefty cheque attached with his name on it. Anger filled me up and I ripped the cheque apart. How dare he?! How dared he think my heart condition could be fixed with just a letter and a cheque?! My eyes became teary and all the emotions I thought I dealt with at the bar came rising up again. While I was caught up in my emotions, I didn't notice that the maid opened up the gate and passed me three full boxes that probably contained my stuff. “I'm really sorry ma'am.” I pushed past the maid and walked into the compound. “Please ma'am you can't go back in.” I dismissed her words and headed straight into the mansion. I climbed up to what used to be Leo's and I room. However, at the moment I turned the doorknob, the door clicked open too. The door opened and I was met face to face with Leo. He seemed troubled that I was right there in front of him. “What are you doing here? I told the maid to give you your stuff. I'm certain I fixed most of the things…” “Leo,” I said, looking into his eyes. It was hard, because I knew what I did the previous night and I felt guilty about it but I pretended to be strong. “If you want us to be divorced, so be it, but this house is mine. You can't pay me enough for it.” I said, resisting the urge to break down. “If you want the house, fine you can have it. I'll move instead.” He said and started to walk past me. “Wait,” I said and he halted in his steps. “Is this what you really wanted?” I asked him. We were covered by extreme silence, but then he said, “Yes. It was all I wanted.” “Shouldn't you be at the booked hotel with your new wife?” I asked, swallowing nervously. “It's because of you I came here briefly.” He said, causing me to feel hopeful for a moment, but it was soon dashed once he finished his statement. “So we never have a reason to see each other again.” As I watched him walk away, I realized that he was no longer mine. Things were happening so fast but Leo didn't seem like he could be won by me anymore. For him to even choose abandoning the house to me, that alone said everything that I needed to know. Even though I had the house now, I couldn't bear to be in the same city as my ex-husband and my sister so I decided to take off. I immediately boarded the next flight to Cade city. *** When I arrived at Cade city, I was covered by a systematically engineered city that had many lights and so many posters on the walls. The traffic lights were connected at the perfect spots on the road. This city was perfect for business. But I could not think of any business things when I abruptly brought out my phone revealing pictures of my ex-husband and my sister. It was a humiliating sight that I could never get used to. I leaned on the wall in my hotel room before letting my tears flow as I slid down to the floor. “Why?!” I cried out for the first time while letting my anger out. “How could he do this to me? How could he do this to us?!” I bawled my eyes out. “He could have cheated on me with anyone else but why did it have to be my sister?! And she's even pregnant.” I scoffed internally to myself. Then my mood began to get off and I began to think to myself that maybe it was my fault that I was cheated on. I couldn't bear any child for him throughout the few years that we stayed together. Why wouldn't he find someone to cheat with? But, it shouldn't have been my sister. My family was destroyed because of him and what made me sadder was that my parents agreed with what he did. There was no bigger betrayal than that.
