Chapter 10

1015 Words
Knight’s POV I was already beyond irritated walking into that company, and my annoyance only deepened when I heard that girl utter my name. Like I’d told her before, whoever couldn’t keep their mouth shut would have a lot to answer for. I came here fully prepared to rage at Conan, but now he’d added yet another offense to his crawling incompetence. Aria was bold, I’d give her that. But I wasn’t in the mood to play whatever game she thought she was running when she said she was interested in me. I wasn’t naïve. Still, as I walked away from her, my jaw remained clenched—even though a smirk tugged at my lips. I genuinely hoped we never crossed paths again. She was trouble, the kind I had no intention of bothering myself with. I pushed open Conan’s office door without hesitation. The moment his eyes met mine, he jumped to his feet and bowed. “Boss,” he muttered. I rolled my eyes and motioned for him to come closer. “Are you planning to keep hiding behind that goddamn desk, or do I have to beg you to walk over here as well?” He hurried forward, muttering apologies. “What brings you here unannounced, Boss?” he asked carefully. I plastered a smile on my face as I stepped closer. “Did you talk about me to anyone, Conan?” I asked, giving him a chance to come clean. He shook his head immediately. “Never. I know the rules. Why would I break them?” “Oh?” I chuckled deeply. “Is that really so?” Before he could react, I raised my leg and kicked him sharply in the shin. “f**k!” he hissed, staggering back, hands flying to his leg. “I gave you a chance to be honest,” I said coldly, stalking toward him. “And you still chose to lie.” He avoided my gaze. “Look me in the eyes when I’m talking to you,” I added with another soft chuckle. He straightened instantly, legs trembling. “The next time I hear my name come from someone I don’t know,” I warned, “it won’t end like this. Understand?” “It’ll never happen again, Boss. I promise,” he said quickly. “Good.” I exhaled. “Now for the real reason I’m here. Apparently, you weren’t smart enough to check the documents you delivered because the most critical page is missing.” His face drained of color. “Or did you rip it out yourself, Conan?” “No no, never!” he panicked. “I’ll check the office again. Please give me another chance he choked out immediately dropping to his knees. “You’re a business partner, not a servant. Get the hell up,” I said, shaking my head as I eyed him. “I’m sorry,” he muttered again. “Just give me one more chance.” “Fine. I’ll be looking forward to how you redeem yourself i muttered walking out without another glance. Pathetic. For someone born into a family that powerful, he folded far too easily. His parents truly failed with him. I headed toward the parking lot feeling far more amused than when I’d arrived. I pulled out my phone and smiled when I saw Rowan’s message. Mr. Saturn has been captured. Finally. Time to have some fun. I turned a corner and caught sight of her—Aria. I kept walking, curious now. I took another turn, and she followed. So her interest had turned her into a stalker now uhn. Interesting. I reached the parking lot and stopped in the middle, pulling out my phone. Don’t bring the car yet, I texted Rowan. I’m catching a rat. I waited before turning toward where I knew she was hiding. I smiled when I heard her curse while flipping through photos. So that was her endgame—taking pictures of me. Her audacity was… cute. I stood still until she turned and walked straight into my chest. I almost laughed as she cursed, rubbing her head. She sure did curse a lot. I schooled my face back into indifference as she nervously stuttered, “We meet again.” My gaze dropped to the phone in her hands. I grabbed her wrists, lifting them slightly, and pulled the phone free. “So,” I said calmly, “you’re a stalker now? Taking pictures of me without permission?” I let the threat of smashing her phone hang, watching the conflict flash through her eyes. “Why did you take my picture?” I asked again, my voice harder. She shut her eyes, chest rising and falling, then snapped them open. “Because I think you look hot!” The pitch of her voice rang in my ears, and I immediately burst out laughing, stepping back. “What did you just say?” I asked between laughs. “I said I took your pictures because you look hot,” she repeated, eyes sparkling. I laughed again. “You look even hotter right now,” she added. “Your laugh is really hot.” Who the hell was this girl? “You don’t look too bad yourself, Aria,” I muttered, my laughter fading. I glanced at her phone in my hands and deleted the pictures from it before handing it back to her. She took it slowly from my hands, instantly tucking it into her pocket. “Thanks for making my day brighter,” I added. “I needed that.” “See you later, Aria I muttered as I turned around without another word. I walked toward the car where Rowan was already waiting and slipped in. “We can go,” I said, and he immediately started the engine. As we drove past a still frozen Aria, Rowan glanced at me through the mirror. “I heard your laugh, Boss.” I chuckled again. “I might’ve met someone interesting,” I said with a smile as we drove off.
