As I sat on the emergency stairwell, tears welled up and streamed down my face. My body raked with wordless sobs as I clutched the jacket close to my chest. I couldn't figure out why I was crying so much. I knew I shouldn't be bothered. How could he not have moved on? I was the one who turned on him!But... but...
My tears formed a watery film on the expensive fabric as I clutched the jacket tighter. I was well aware that the cameras were trained on me, and that he was watching me from every angle. I can only hope that he will see my pain and show at least a tiny little bit of mercy. That seemed incredibly unlikely.
I blew my nose with a tissue from my bag. I had no idea how I was going to get a job in this hellhole. A snide voice in my head reminded me that I didn't have a choice. Shut up, damn it!
A hand tapped me on the arm at that precise moment. I turned around to see a guy, a very hot guy, kneeling next to me in a light blue suit. He had a worried expression on his face, and I stared at him, unsure who he was. Was he Mr. CEO's personal assistant?
"You're Ciphora Klein right?" his brown-eyed gaze twinkled. I nodded in reply, not trusting my voice enough to speak yet.
"I'm Alan Verlice, the Creative Director." I gaped in recognition. Meaning, my boss. Got it. He smiled at my incredulousness. I shook his hand, trying to say something.
"P-pleasure to meet you, sir," I finally managed. "I'm truly sorry that you had to find me in this condition," I apologized, gesturing to the tissues and the coffee-stained coat.
He shook it off. "Oh, that's alright. I have to get going anyways", with a friendly smile. He really was an attractive man. He couldn't be that older than me. In fact, if I can go out on a limb and say we're the same age, I doubt if it'll be false.
I stood up then, maintaining my dignity. He was my boss after all. He stood up after me and shook my hand.
"I look forward to seeing you at work, Miss. Klein," he smiled a sincere welcome.
"Me too sir." He waved goodbye and walked away. I turned to the glaring cameras and stuck my tongue out at it. I'm sure he's watching.
I went up to the elevators and pressed the ground floor button. I did it! I suddenly understood what had happened. I was hired! My mind flashed back to Nathan's face, but I swatted it away. He can't ruin my happiness, at least not right now.
Before long, the elevator was packed, and I was drowning in the smell of expensive suits and designer perfumes. But nothing could put a damper on my mood now. I smiled widely.
There was only one small con. I looked down at the jacket on my hands. How was I supposed to wash this?
"Congratulations babe!" Becca pounced on me as soon as I got in, a smug grin donning my face. I laughed and hugged her back, feeling like I was on cloud nine.
"So, tell me tell me! What happened?" We sat at the dining area, sipping a bottle of cheap red wine. I told her everything, not leaving even a single detail.
"Hmm," she felt the material of the jacket, "this is expensive alright, and Armani I think." Yeah, I guessed that.
"So how do we wash it?" I tugged at the sleeves of the sweats I'd changed into.
She shrugged. "We don't. We'll leave it with the dry cleaners. They'll know what to do."
I nodded. Yeah, that's probably best.
"In the meantime..." she trailed off, her eyes glinting mischievously. Uh oh.
"Hm?" I asked, sipping the wine.
"We have to go out and celebrate!" she shrieked, jumping up and down.
"Huh? What? Why?"
"Oh you're so dense sometimes Ciphora," she frowned playfully, "we have to celebrate your new job of course!"
"I don't see any reason for celebrating though," I mumbled, looking away from her excited face.
"Well, you wouldn't, but we do." She chuckled evilly. I stared at her.
"Hang on, what do you mean, 'we'?" She's not that unhinged to refer to herself in the plural sense. I thought so at least.
"Who do you think?" She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. I groaned.
