AFK = Away From Keyboard = Usually said when you step away from your computer for a while, or when you’re having to tab out of the game. AFK lets other people know that you’re probably not going to respond to messages, or be able to attack, defend or heal during that time. Some games will also automatically put an AFK tag on you when you don’t interact with the game for a certain amount of time, making it easier for other players when you haven’t actually marked yourself as AFK.
I stare at the computer, the screen dark, the whole machine quiet, something that doesn’t happen that often unless I’m off to bed. And even then, it’s not uncommon for me to have my computer on when I’m asleep.
