Taeoh's eyes were torn between his loyalty to Min-Joon and his growing concern for Yuna. He had always stood by his friend, but he couldn't ignore the pain Min-Joon's actions were causing. As he watched Yuna's tears fall, he felt his heart ache. He knew he had to make a choice.
"Taeoh, what's going on?" Min-Joon asked, noticing his friend's hesitation.
"Nothing, man," Taeoh replied, trying to sound casual. But Min-Joon's eyes narrowed, sensing something was amiss.
"Taeoh, you're not buying into her act, are you?" Min-Joon sneered. "She's just playing the victim to get attention."
Taeoh's eyes met Yuna's, and he saw the genuine hurt there. "Min-Joon, maybe we should just leave her alone," he suggested, his voice firm but gentle.
Min-Joon's face darkened. "You're supposed to be my friend, Taeoh. Not hers."
Taeoh took a deep breath and made his choice. "I'm sorry, Min-Joon. But I can't stand by and watch you hurt her like this." He walked away, leaving Min-Joon's anger and Yuna's gratitude hanging in the air. The hallway seemed to stretch between them, a symbol of the divide that had grown between Taeoh and his former friend.
Taeoh kept thinking of Yuna the whole night.
