Squinting my eyes, I woke up to bright sun rays seeping in through my window. "Ugh." I groaned, not liking how my sleep was disturbed. Who the hell left the curtains open? Oh, it was me. Well. Give the girl some rest. I had a rough night already. There was this pounding headache and I couldn't try to ignore it. Why did I drink too much? Holding my head in my hands I tried to soothe the pain but it wasn't going. God.
I slowly stood up from the bed and just as I took two steps, I went flying to the floor. "Ugh. What now?" I almost screamed when I looked back to see my legs tangled into the comforter I had on previously.
Huffing I just laid there for a second too long. Having no energy to even lift myself up. There was a knock on the door and Valenie popped her head inside the door.
"I heard something falling—" she paused and mocked' "—or someone falling. So thought to check." She humored and I rolled my eyes at her.
"Get me some Advil woman! Just don't stand there." I snapped as I groaned more into my head, clutching my head on my knees. There was silence for about a minute before I heard Valenie's footsteps returning. She came inside my room and settled on the edge of the bed beside me.
"Here." She handed me a glass of water and some Advil that I gulped hungrily. God. This s**t is heaven. It soothes this shitty headache.
I sighed and tried to get up, and Valenie helped me to the washroom and left saying, "I will bring clothes for you." I was grateful to her as I nodded.
I got done showering and brushing my teeth when the door of the bathroom was knocked. I was in my towel as she stepped inside and placed the neat and clean clothes on the basin.
"Thanks," I muttered almost inaudible with the toothpaste in my mouth. she just shook her head and left again, closing the door behind her. I quickly got dressed and settled the bird's nest of my hair. my hair looked untamed as if I had a wild night out. I did. but not in that sense.
Moving out of my room, Valenie stood near the kitchen slab, pouring two mugs of coffee. I just smiled up at her, settling into the stool behind the kitchen bar.
"How was your night?" she spoke quietly. "am I missing something?" she was suspiciously gazing at me from where she stood.
I shrugged and shook my head. "it's nothing Val." I cleared my throat when my voice came out squeaky.
"oh yeah?" she said suddenly intrigued. now, this was bad. intrigued Valenie was a hard nut to crack. gosh. not this early morning.
"it's too early to reminisce yesterday's events. I'll tell you when I get back from work. I'm already late." I said as I headed back to my room with the mug of coffee in my hand which she placed in front of me.
"Okay, but I need all the deets Lia." she threatened cutely and I nodded very enthusiastically, trying to get away as soon as possible.
I had work today as well. come on. it was Saturday for f**k's sake. why did they need to call us to work every Saturday of the whole damn month when nobody gave a f**k? yes, I worked at a library behind my school. it was a public library and barely anyone checked in on Saturdays, everybody had to have a fun night and not spend time with books even older than them.
It was a walking distance from the school however as it was Saturday I used to go by public transport. and I was already hating this job. all I had to do was clean the dusty books, place them in their genre section or enter them into the system and take care of the place.
"what are you going to do today?" I asked Valenie as I threw my sling bag onto my shoulder and tied my laces.
"Nothing much. I'll clean obviously. you go to work. don't stress out okay?" she smiled at me and to be honest we were always there to cheer each other up. she was the only one I had anyway.
Enzo Wright didn't cross my mind the whole time I was in the house, but just as I sat on the Public Bus to drop me at the nearest Bus stop of the library, his eyes and his lips were all I could remember. God. clenching my legs I tried to concentrate on the passing roads and cars. but nothing worked. his hauntingly beautiful eyes flashed through my brain and all I could do was stay mesmerized, relishing the moments we spent last night. as much as I tried to deny the connection we shared, I still knew it was wrong. very wrong on my part. I needed to tell Valenie calmly and if I told her before leaving for work, I knew she'd keep pondering on the events from last night.
it was better I tell her and explain to her everything. reaching the Library, I opened it up and turned the sign from "closed," to "open."
let's start with another boring Saturday. I had to keep this job just because the free coffee was amazing and the pay was good compared to the work assigned to me. also, as much as I hated to admit it, I loved the smell of old books. I wasn't a fan of reading much but I loved the smell of old books.
I was roaming the huge place when I noticed a figure entering the door. who was here on a bright sunny morning? and not to forget it was a man and not an old man or woman.
I walked back to the desk and about to greet the customer with a polite smile but all the color drained from my face altogether. what was he doing here?"
